Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, a rope I really love to use. This rope is a total gem right out of the package. The feel is beautiful and the action is smooth in an ATC as well as a mechanical belay device. I took a 20' fall working a new route on a desert tower in Sedona; soft catch with no sheath trauma. After the fall the rope stayed supple at the working end. Knots are easy to tie and stay secure throughout use. I am so happy I bought it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful hand, thick yet supple sheath I had the chance to work with a friends new 9.6, and it comes off as a bit of a marvel. So, it feels burly for a 9.6 - and if you check the numbers, the dry 9.6 is 65 g/m to the 9.9's 64 g/m and has 3 more factor falls than the 9.9!! (By the way BD, you guys have so many crazy names for jackets and layers, you nailed it on the rope names. Thanks - so simple, so good!) I only used the rope a couple days, so I'll have to report back on endurance, but the rope didn't blacken my hands. I know some people say the dry treatment will do that, but in my mind it's residue from aluminum belay pieces that gets on the rope. Do you know, BD? Bottom-line, I plan to make this my next rope, it really impressed me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good rope; dirties easy Rope performs well; Good elongation and feels nice in the hands. I take great care of ropes and I don't enjoy black hands after a belay at all.. this rope turned black REAL FAST (after one week in Slade) and now tarnishes my hands each belay.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Rope, questionable middle mark Bought this rope sight unseen so was relieved that I like it. I have only used it for a few days but I'm super happy with the way it performs. Has a great hand/feel/whatever you call it when you're clipping gear and runs through an ATC nicely. The overall rope weight and bulk is nice and low - enjoying the 0.2 reduction in diameter from my last rope. My only criticism is regarding the middle mark. Fresh out of the pack it was a bright black section a few inches long and I was excited at how obvious it was. Unfortunately after only a couple of days it has rubbed off so that it is a dull black mark which is still sufficiently obvious but the black marker is slowly being spread along the rope. Time will tell but it looks like my middle mark may end up being a couple of feet long. Overall tho, it's a great rope and I'm happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic, but not entirely impervious Unless you aspire to be the next great free soloist, climbers need a solid, durable and trusty rope. After all, it is ultimately what saves the vertically inclined from themselves. I was super stoked to see Black Diamond release a slew of beautifully colored ropes in a variety of diameters and lengths each appropriate for a multitude of niche endeavors. As I was in the market for a new rope, I opted for BD's new 70m 9.6 in orange. Though a lover of all things green (except gang green), I am admittedly a fair-weather-climber, and so went with the untreated orange version. Right out of the package this rope is akin to a supple leopard - ready for serious action. It flaked perfectly onto my tarp and let me and my buddies take its maiden voyage in Joshua Tree to new heights. This rope feels soft, smooth and burly all at the same time, and has just the right amount of stretch to make for an even softer catch - lots of catches. I was particularly excited by BD's endurance sheath on this 70 meters of 9.6 magic. After retiring my soft Petzl Xion strictly to gym use, I was eager to get something a little tougher and more able to thwart J Tree's attempts to shred my gear. Sadly, and as depicted in the below images, one full day of climbing on the cheese grater rock of J Tree did lead to a bit of fraying of BD's endurance sheath. While the fraying is minimal, I remain a bit bummed at the outcome - kinda how Cameron felt after he, Sloan and Ferris accidentally tossed his dad's Ferrari into the woods after attempting to reset the speedometer. Okay, not really THAT bad, but you get the idea. All-in-all, I'm super happy with this rope. Also, I want to send a shout out to BD's design crew for color coordinating all their newest gear - so nice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Handling Rope I love this rope. It is the perfect balance between durability and weight. The 9.6 is the perfect diameter for an easy feeding through the belay device. I have been using this rope for sport climbing, top roping and trad climbing. It has been my general purpose work horse and is holding up great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Rope! This rope is great. 60m is the perfect length for me and it's very durable and easy to use. The rope has great quality and is pretty light for a 60m rope!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BD finally makes ropes...and they're great! After a while on this rope, I can say I'm a huge fan. It feels stiff yet provides a nice soft catch. Great middle marker is very easy to find
