Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic shell I've had my Theta AR for a year now and I absolutely love it. I take it with me everywhere and I use it all year, except a few weeks in summer. It has a lot of really nice details and I would definitely recommend it to everyone. I chose the Theta AR over the Beta AR because of the extra length. I'm quite tall (176cm), but not that broad build, so the small was perfect for me and there is plenty of space for layering, but it's not too bulky either. It does fit a quite large though, so try it before buying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bombproof shell This shell goes everywhere with me, from rainy days in town to back country touring. It's the longest hard shell I could find anywhere (thank you Arc'teryx for making women's sizes in longer and 'Tall' options!). I am 5'11", 140lbs, 34D chest; a Medium fits very well either alone or with enough room to still comfortably put on a puffy or mid layer(s) underneath (e.g. Arc'teryx Atom hoodie), and is long enough to partially cover my bum and thighs. The cut of the coat is feels great and it is the only hard shell I've worn that accommodates full movement in the shoulders without the sleeves inching up. After two years it still looks brand new even after campfires, crashing into tress, sap, mud, the works, and is still seems just as waterproof and breathable as the day I bought it! A solid product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful All-Purpose Jacket, with a couple design quirks First impressions: I'm 5'8", about 155 muscular pounds (37"-31"-39.5"). I first ordered a size Large (because of the "Athletic Fit" info), but that was too big, even wearing 3 layers beneath for the coldest conditions I'm planning for in Nepal (wool shirt, Capilene 4 zip top, and Arc'teryx Atom SV Hoody). I then ordered size Medium, and it fits perfectly. The front length falls just below crotch level (I'm short-waisted), and the back falls beyond the bottom of my butt by about 1". I have broad shoulders, and the full range of motion is unrestricted and comfortable. The zippers all work smoothly, and the wrist Velcro is strong. I have worn the jacket in humid, moderate rain, and found it very light and comfortable. I have not tested it in bad conditions, but I believe it will perform very well. A few style aspects that do not appeal to me: Given the description of AR jackets as "All Around," I would rather have a hood that detaches, or at least stows away. Also, the Velcro "wool" on the Bondi Blue color is WHITE. It should be black, to match the Velcro teeth and hood pulls. It looks out of place with every other accent on the jacket. True, the zipper pull strings are a pale aqua color, but not white. My wrists are 6 1/2" - not very large, but even when I tighten the Velcro all the way, that ugly white fabric still shows - it seems like a careless oversight. And one last style niggle - the pack-friendly pockets are roomy, but when the zippers are pulled closed, the dangling aqua pull strings can look a bit like oddly-placed pasties. Minor design gripes aside, I am very pleased with this jacket, and consider it worth the extra $ investment. I tried 4 other jacket options, including the Patagonia Triolet, Shelter Stone and Rain Shadow. This is the lightest, highest denier, most comfortable (if less versatile) design of all, and the most expensive. It still seems worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket, I compared several of them. ~I have not used the Theta AR jacket just yet, but I'm giving it 5 stars based on the fact that I had so many jackets of various brands delivered to my house to try (I live in the boonies) and none really compared to the quality and feel of the Arc'teryx. I will get to break it in next week in Colorado. Hopefully this review will help you make a decision. ~Once I narrowed down that I definitely wanted Arc'teryx, I had to choose between the Beta AR and the Theta AR. I wanted a jacket that would be good for everything. Hiking, skiing, general wear. I ordered both of these jackets and ultimately went with the Theta in medium. I am 5'7" my weight fluctuates between 142-150lbs, athletic build, 34C chest, long torso, small waist, good size booty. I wear a sz 29 in denim, sz 6 in a top, dresses are 6/8 if that helps. Roomy enough for my CW-X compression insulation base layer, a mid layer, and a good size down layer and plenty of room for a soft shell if you wanted it without making you look huge. I also have an Osprey hydration pack that fits very nice over it all. The Beta was great, I really liked it, but it would be something that I would wear around town or just to hike in. The Beta was quite a bit shorter and my soft shell and down both stuck out from the bottom, but they did fit underneath nonetheless. Not bad, but enough that my husband even commented that it looked a bit weird, so once the Theta arrived it was the definite choice. If you have a short torso the Beta may work better for you? The Theta is cut a little more generous, but honestly the only time you would notice is if you were wearing it as a rain jacket only with maybe a t-shirt underneath. As far as the quality goes, it looks and feels wonderful. This is my first Arc'teryx garment. A recommendation from a friend who has done several climbing expeditions said it is the best, you get what you pay for. Once you get over the sticker shock, you'll be glad you went with it! I bought the Theta in black, it seems to be a very true black, but not a depressing black, ha ha. I also purchased the Sidewinder jacket in Hibiscus as my main ski jacket, I have not used it yet, but I LOVE it! The cut of the Sidewinder seems more generous than the Theta AR, but I would not want a small. I went with a medium in it as well. I did order the Stingray jacket and it went back, medium fit great, but it had no personality at all and the black wasn't a true black, more of a charcoal, but very nice. Hope this helps!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love this jacket! I have worn this jacket once, in the rain. It is quite a bit lighter than I expected. Style, cut color all perfect. I initially brought the Beta LT, which was beautifully light, but it was really too short and a bit too trim fitting for layering down and fleece together. The Theta LT looked a bit too short, for what I needed. I ended up going for the AR, so I could layer comfortably. The jacket is roomy and long enough to wear layers underneath, yet doesn't look too bad with just the first layer of clothes when you are out and about in warm climate rain. This jacket will be perfect up in the Khumbu region, where I got completely drenched trekking up to Namche Bazaar, last October. Perfect for trekking in places where there are no dryers or electricity to dry things and being wet can be a safety issue. Perfect for running around the city in the rain. Thank you Arctyerx staff who were so kind and patient in helping me come to a decision about which jacket!!

ARC'TERYX FIT GUIDE
NEXT to SKIN FIT: These snugly-fitting garments are made with stretch fabrics to fit next to the skin to enhance moisture management and thermal efficiency. Used for base layers which integrate well with Arc'teryx Expedition, Trim, Athletic and Relaxed Fit styles.

TRIM FIT: These trim fitting garments share motion-friendly traits with an Arc'teryx Regular fit style, but are patterned with lower volume for reduced bulk. The Arc'teryx trim fit is sized for a base layer and a trim synthetic or down filled mid-layer.

REGULAR FIT: This is the "Arc'teryx Standard" fit. The complex patterns used utilize anatomical shaping and gussets to enhance motion and eliminate excess bulk. Trimmer than the Relaxed fit with room for a base layer, a light fleece mid-layer and a synthetic or down filled mid-layer.

RELAXED FIT: Relaxed fit garments rely on both articulation and higher volume patterns to provide comfort and mobility. This is a looser fit featuring room for a base layer plus a thick cold weather mid-layer.

EXPEDITION FIT: Expedition fit is suitable for winter / extreme conditions. The larger cut accommodates multiple layers without binding or restricting movement. Their maximum fit with room for a base layer plus multiple, thick cold weather mid-layers.
