The Arcteryx Women's Fission SV Jacket is a super durable insulated shell that's perfect for snowsports or backcountry trekking. Websters defines "fission" as "some sciencey thing probably involving atoms and.... maybe elements?". I don't know, I didn't look it up. I'll stick to things that I do know. I know that the Fission SV jacket, with its GORE-TEX® shell and Coreloft™ synthetic insulation, is designed to conquer the outdoorsy elements (i.e. rain/snow/sleet/etc). The fit is athletic but still offers room for further layering in extreme cold. The hood is helmet compatible and insulated for further versatility. It'll keep out the cold while you sit on the chairlift and help regulate your core temperature during fierce activity. Websters should define "fission" as "a pretty sweet jacket."

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go-to piece Extremely afraid of the cold. Have tried that heavy parka thing, just didn't work for me as well as layering does. So the loose fit of the Fission actually suits me, since I can fit midlayers underneath. The Fission SV is pretty much the first piece I use once it dips to between 0c - -5c. It keeps me warm on a windy day while waiting for the bus without a shelter. The cords on the hood helps to frame it to the shape of my head, very useful. As the temperature dips lower, I have the Cerium LT and Cerium SV as my midlayer. Both are brightly coloured, so I have the Fission in black. As the outermost layer, great colour to hide any dirt or stain. The only thing I wish it had were hand pockets, preferably lined with fleece. Then it would really be perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing quality, skimps on style I bought this jacket after years of being cold and trying to layer my way to warmth. I feel the cold, especially in low-activity sports or on a chairlift on the ski hill. No amount of layering was able to keep me comfortably warm without reducing mobility or making me feel like a marshmallow. The Fission SV does it all. I can't say enough about the quality of the jacket. It is 100% windproof (proven in the Canadian Rockies on a chairlift with 90 km/hr winds), and amazingly warm with little bulk. I needed only a base layer in -15C (5F). The jacket does not have any pit zips, which I have found to be a bonus, given what I am using the jacket for. I found on my Beta AR that the wind could sneak in through the pit zips even if they were done up, so the lack of pit zips on the Fission SV contributes to its overall bombproof-ness. The Fission SV is very simple. There is no ski skirt, but it does have a well-placed waist draw-cord. There are no bells and whistles like MP3 /iPod holders or access holes, but it has internal pockets for you to stash your skins if you're accessing the backcountry. The only complaint I have is fairly negligible: compared to the Atom or Beta, it looks a bit bulkier in the arms and isn't form-fitting. However, for the warmth and flexibility offered by the jacket (and the ability to layer as much as required), it's a small price to pay. I am sure there is a way to streamline the fit in the future; hopefully they do so in a newer jacket. All in all, I am extremely happy with this purchase. It can work as both and insulator and shell, or just as an insulated shell on the super cold days. I've now enjoyed it in -40C (-40F) for hours on end and have not been cold. Amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OFFER BETTER COLORS NEXT YEAR! I would love to try this coat - as I am always cold at age 55 even though I am much more physically fit than most my age. but do NOT! NEVER@ like black (as i look like i am ready for the coffin) and white will get so filthy and at this price, I would like choices. The light purplish color i don't like - just personal. Offer brighter colors like green or blue or teal or turqoise or purple or red. at this price, I want a color that i like. i like white - but it will get so filthy looking - even though other colors pick up dirt, at least once cleaned, the deeper colors tend to hide the stains more. I think purple is a good color for that. THANKS for listening. the reviews sound great - as i am looking for a REALLY WARM COAT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two thumbs way way up for this awesome all arounder This was a gift for my wife. She wears a small in pretty much everything and this in small fit her perfectly. The red is a really nice shade of red. It is bright (but not overly bright) and really attractive. What is really impressive is the fit of the jacket. It is insulated so there is a puffiness to it, but it still manages to be pretty slimming and it doesn't fall short of arcteryx's reputation of having really nicely fitted gear. It has been a cold winter and we have been out in anywhere from -5 to 30 deg. fahrenheit without getting cold or too hot. She loves it, and I do too. I have a number of arcteryx shells and am a little jealous of her built in insulation. This was a great purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My wife size or seems warm but worried about how thin it is My wife is ALWAYS cold and we live in northern N Dakota....so I figured I would by her about the most expensive coat made (within reason).,,,,The hood is pretty huge, designed for a helmet, but let's face it, most of is won't wear a helmet when we were this coat, nor will we be climbing a mountain.,,,,I order a medium, she is 5'6" 125 with an athletic build and some "additions." The medium fit her great.,,,,Overall, she loves it, thinks it looks great (got the Heather grey) but won't know how warm it is til winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, this is an incredible jacket! The name alone, Arcteryx, implies excellence but honestly, sometimes you wonder if the price is really worth it and if they just have a really good marketing department. But, this jacket (and all other Arcteryx jackets for that matter) truly is worth the money. It is comfortable, which to me is key, and it's warm, another key factor. Great pockets, great fit....definitely buy this jacket if you are thinking about it, you won't regret it, worth every penny...or dollar :)

WAIST: Measure around the narrowest part of the waist, usually near the belly button.

HIP: Stand with feet together and measure around the widest part of the hip.

ARC'TERYX FIT GUIDE
NEXT to SKIN FIT: These snugly-fitting garments are made with stretch fabrics to fit next to the skin to enhance moisture management and thermal efficiency. Used for base layers which integrate well with Arc'teryx Expedition, Trim, Athletic and Relaxed Fit styles.

TRIM FIT: These trim fitting garments share motion-friendly traits with an Arc'teryx Regular fit style, but are patterned with lower volume for reduced bulk. The Arc'teryx trim fit is sized for a base layer and a trim synthetic or down filled mid-layer.

REGULAR FIT: This is the "Arc'teryx Standard" fit. The complex patterns used utilize anatomical shaping and gussets to enhance motion and eliminate excess bulk. Trimmer than the Relaxed fit with room for a base layer, a light fleece mid-layer and a synthetic or down filled mid-layer.

RELAXED FIT: Relaxed fit garments rely on both articulation and higher volume patterns to provide comfort and mobility. This is a looser fit featuring room for a base layer plus a thick cold weather mid-layer.

EXPEDITION FIT: Expedition fit is suitable for winter / extreme conditions. The larger cut accommodates multiple layers without binding or restricting movement. Their maximum fit with room for a base layer plus multiple, thick cold weather mid-layers.
