Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Freeride Pants for Skiing and Riding!! Bought these pants last season mainly for off piste snowboarding in BC and the Alps. Although these are mainly aimed at skiers they have been awesome for snowboarding. The relaxed fit and baggy lower leg sits comfortably over the binding straps and are baggy enough to easily undo the bindings. These have kept me dry and warm in some pretty bad weather and deep snow, they are comfortable and allow for easy movement. The only downside is that the material is not as tough as the pro shells. I caught them on branch through the trees and they sliced open far too easily, but were easily welded on repair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite pant The sabre has been my favourite pant for years. I like the brushed interior to the gore tex, the quietness of the fabric. But it was a little baggy and was hard to ski tour in and I would have to wear suspenders to keep them up high enough. the NEW sizing is great. It still maintains that baggy new school style without the excess it had in the past. I was starting to move away from it because of the baggy walking restriction but now I am back and its my favourite again. Thigh vents for dumping heat, good combination of pockets. Great re design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whatever mythical material you guys make these pants out of, bravo. So there I was, out skiing a few days ago, and I happened to get swept off a 30 ft cliff band by a small Avalanche that I had triggered. Bounced off a few rocks and a tree on the way down, smashing the heck out of my legs, rear end, and back. Even hit the tree so hard it literally broke the nylon pole strap around my wrist and ripped it off. Pants and jacket (Theta SV) didn't even have a scuff on them. Like good lord. First thing I thought (after "no way, I'm alive"), was there is no way these pants aren't torn waist to knee. Well lo and behold, they held up to the barrage of impacts and scraping better than I could have imagined. When it comes time to replace these pants, which I don't expect to be any time soon, I know what I will be replacing them with. Another pair of Sabres.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Well built, but poorly designed I have been skiing front and back country with these pants for 2 seasons. They were a gift. They are bomber, but in my opinion, the design has some flaws: - The cuffs are way too big – they are like bellbottom pants from the 70’s. They often catch on my bindings during skinning, and when skiing lines with small hits the cuff will catch the brake on my opposite ski – very irritating. They could easily be taken in by 2 or 3 inches. I talked to Arcteryx – they don’t do mod’s like this. - In keeping with the bellbottom theme, they are narrow through the thigh. The problem here is that the pockets are large and anything in them just jumbles up at the bottom of the pocket and digs into your leg (there are no pleats or space to expand outwards) - The fuzzy fleece lining has a lot of friction on whatever you’re wearing under them, so when skinning / hiking they tend to pull at each other

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good ski pant The workmanship, overall design and materials is as always with Arc'teryx superb. Probably the best there is. The cut of the pant is just unbelievable. It really is perfect. You will also look and feel extremely cool in them. The 3L lo-loft lining/backer helps with moisture management and adds a just the right amount of warmth. The only drawback is the belt (or built in little string). The first thing I did when I got the pants was to remove it and added a wider more stable belt. If you are in to Arc'teryx the "H-150 Riggers Belt" would probably be very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sabre Pants I tested out a pair of Sabre pants to start this season. I have over 35 days of on and off piste skiing in them to date. This year in Eastern Sierra, where I normally train was the least amount of snow fall in years, but still timed it well enough to get many good days in. Having been a testor for a number of brands as well as being a multi sport athlete, my needs have always been for light and highly functional gear which is easily stowed and can cross over with high versatility. I was surprised by what I found in both the Sabre Pants and Sabre Jacket. I am athletic build (compete in triathlon/road & trail running/cycling & MTBing) 5'9.5" @ 160lbs. I'm normally a medium in most styles I have previously tested. The small in the Sabre pants & shell fit perfectly w/ room to layer. I was totally comfortable skiing all conditions wearing 2xu thermal compression 3/4 tights as my base layer bottoms. I realize the Sabre pants are cut a little fuller than the Stingray and some of the other cuts like the Stinger but the small size fit me well and not to baggy. I wear a 30-31 in. waiste but since I cycle my thighs are a little larger in proportion. The Sabre pants size small accomadated me well allowing for good movement. They also served well in some off- piste earn your turn recon with still great versatility in climate control in that I did not feel overheated when hiking in. I liked the hip pockets which had ample room for extra $$, chap stick, credit card and keys. (A suggestion might be a small key hook leash to secure keys). I liked the design and placement of the thigh pockets in that when I stowe an iPhone in them, they are cut where the stowed items do not drop down to far to bang around my knees. The Sabre pants also accomodate and enabled me to wear my knee braces under them with good freedom of movement. While these are a fuller cut style, they pack and fold up allowing for easy packing & stowing, while they were the lightest I've ever tested of their kind. While other reviews may have posted them too baggy, I did not find it the case even as a fuller cut. They paired nicely with the Sabre Jacket. I push my gear pretty hard and not a scratch on them from this seasons training.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific combination of looks, function and durability. This review applies to the 2013-14 version. I have had two pair of these pants for two seasons now. They've been put through the ringer including race training, backcountry and normal resort skiing. I'd estimate each pair has seen about 40-50 days of use. Fabric - This helps make these pants outstanding. Terrific combination of luxurious softness, thickness and toughness. The insulation is pretty light, worth maybe half a layer. Fit/mobility - Also outstanding. Extremely comfortable and adaptive to movement. Highly resistant to tree branches and man- made catch hazards. Appearance - Partly individual but I haven't found other snow pants that approach the looks of Arc pants. The fit of my version is a little baggy, which I like. Don't know about the current version. Durability - These pants look the same as when I first tried them on. Waterproofing - They have been leakproof but do require occassional applications of DWR particularly if you wash them frequently as I do. The tutorial video on the Arc website is very helpful. Stain Resistance - They do absorb grease which I resolve with frequent laundering. The Arc website gives helpful instructions for treating stains which has worked for me. If slight stains might bother you and you'd prefer not to frequently launder - go dark. I love these pants and give them my unqualified recommendation. Great product, I haven't found anything else that compares. Arc has modified them for the 2015-16 season, that should be factored in, but I submitted this review so there would be information on long term use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Get the Stinger I really like the fit and they have proven to be durable enough. However, these pants simply aren't waterproof enough and that's the main reason I purchased them. Sitting on a wet seat in the cat all day or a chairlifts during a storm, I'm still soaking water through 3 layers to my skin. Get the Stinger pant instead. They have GORE-TEX Pro which apparently offer a greater level of waterproofing.

FIT TYPE INFO and DETAILS:

Next to Skin Fit - These snugly-fitting garments are made with stretch fabrics to fit next to the skin to enhance moisture management and thermal efficiency. Garments in this fit category when constructed using Arc'teryx's heavier-weight AR and SV fabrics also perform very well as mid layer pieces, and users should consider selecting a larger size to accommodate a base layer underneath if the intention is to use this layering system as a mid layer option.

Trim Fit - Trim-fitted garments share the motion-friendly traits with Arc'teryx "Athletic" fit garments, but are patterned with lower volume for reduced bulk. These close-fitting pieces layer well under other garments.

Athletic Fit - This is the "Arc'teryx Standard" fit. These complete patterns utilize anatomical shaping and gussets to enhance motion by minimizing excess bulk. Easy layering under or over each item extends seasonal versatility and comfort.

Relaxed Fit - Relaxed fit garments rely on higher volume patterns and a reduced amount of articulation to offer roomy mobility.

Expedition Fit - Cut roomier than the Arc'teryx Athletic fit and suitable for winter/extreme conditions, Expedition (XPD) fit garments are cut larger to accommodate multiple layers without binding or restricting movement.

• You can find the fit type and additional fit info for Arc'teryx styles in the product description FEATURES and SPECIFICATIONS.
