Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great jacket, not sure if the design has changed.. I love all my garments from Arc teryxs. I many peices already. Last winter my beloved Fission jackets zipper out of knowhere decided to stop closing. I had thoroughly enjoyed it for 5 yrs, with lots of wear. This season I decided to buy another one, being so pleased with my last one. Although the new coat fits great and the same as before, the insulation certainly doesnt feel as dense and warm. My older Fission has "Primaloft" and the new one has " Coreloft" insulation. I used to be able to wear my old Fission right up until the end of December until the really cold weather hit, so we ll see how well the new one holds up in the cold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best jacket I've had this jacket all winter, and it never fails, wether it's cold, warmer, rain or snow. It's very warm and breathable, making it perfect for shifting conditions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light & warm Jacket - however not without faults. Excellent light & warm jacket. Excellent initial purchase. However be mindful of using the external chest pockets as the bottom seams are welded & not reinforced. Net result is over time the weld will be stressed & fail. Resulting in pocket contents slipping all the way down the front of the jacket peeling off outer from inner material. Jacket not abused in any way - just worn day to day. This is a SV Severe jacket... My jacket has experienced this. Disappointed I had to ask for warranty repair. However jacket seems to qualify for free replacement which is heartening. Solution: Fit a "gusset" to both the external pockets & double weld the load bearing seam. Consider this across all jackets that have a welded seam that is subject to load. Kindest regards Mark

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket.... however.... I absolutely love everything about this jacket with the exception of one item - the "integrated fitted collar panel". I recognize the purpose, for added warmth and comfort, but do not agree with the comfort part. While the jacket is very light, it feels as if the weight of the jacket is carried on the base of the neck via the collar panel. In short, I find the integrated collar very uncomfortable. My question is, can the integrated panel be cut out? I know this sounds crazy but I feel the jacket is so good in all other respects, I would be willing to do this. If trying to cut out may ruin the jacket, I will need to return (but clearly want to keep the jacket). Can someone please help. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is it! Great everything. Especially fabric. Much better than their Kappa model, but not heavier. Fit is amazing. Really athletic cut. I am 6', 185-190 pounds. I am almost "athletic built", so it's always been difficult to find the right fit with chest size 44-46 and size 33-34 waist. I got Medium and it fits perfect. (so, my advice is go one size down, because the jacket runs large) So much room in the shoulders, it could accommodate another me. At the same time the bottom is snug fit. The only thing that I haven't quite figured out yet is how to adjust the hood. It's kind of huge. If I don't figure it out I'll just have to try to grow my head bigger. Haven't tried it in some really severe conditions. Just light rain and about 40F. But the feeling is you are under some serious armor without the weight of it. Much better than any down jacket, except, I guess, for a really severe weather. For real winter, by the way I have their Ceres down jacket. But that wonder deserves a separate accolade, for which I have no time now... By the way, on all the pictures their bug-looking embroidered logo (they say it's a bird, and it's quite cool, anyway) looks almost white and very contrast. In real life it's kinda light gray. Which is even more cool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Winter Jacket This is the third winter in the Greater Toronto Area that I've worn my medium-sized Fission SV as my daily jacket. This jacket is super comfortable as it's light weight and still keeps me plenty warm. I like how the sleeves and body of the jacket have a tapered fit to them, the insulated hood, and how the jacket when fully zipped up covers my neck and lower chin - so there's no need for a scarf. I am very pleased with my purchase. It is also great that I can wear a medium Atom jacket comfortably under the Fission SV if I'm going to be outside for an extended period of time. I did wash my jacket at the beginning of this winter season. I followed the care/wash instructions/video on the Arc'teryx website, including using a front loading washer, and the Grangers water repellant spray, but I'm not too impressed with the result. Once the jacket was completely dried I noticed that the brim of the hood isn't straight anymore, but has a wave in it instead. The front zipper of the jacket also has a hilly appearance to it as well. Grant it these are 'first world problems', but I expected the jacket to have the same structured appearance after I washed it as it had before - just cleaner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best winter coat I've ever had I was looking for a warm but not bulky or heavy jacket or parka for winter hiking. This is the best one I've ever had. Warmth without bulk with perfect wind resistance. Just took it out for a 90 minute stroll in -20 (wind chill -30) in Ottawa and it was comfortable - never got too warm. I considered the Kappa jacket which is less expensive but it was puffier and the fabric looked like it would crease and stain more easily than the shell on this coat. So I went for the extra cost but it seems to be worth it. The body fit is excellent - I tried on other jackets from Salomon and Helly Hansen but they were more more constricting in the sleeves. This one feels just perfect - with a little extra room for layering underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around jacket! Well built and logical. I have long arms. Finding coats, jackets, shirts, etc, that fit is a challenge. This jacket has chest room and arm length that fit me well. I only use a light base and in the Alaska rain and cold winter, hikes along beaches and mountains are not uncomfortable. Adjustments and pockets are well placed. The finish beads the water. The insulation stays in place. Great design and durable. Some jackets require a scarf to aid in blocking weather at the neck under the chin, this jacket's collar does a fine job. I will definitely buy another of these jackets.

Arc'teryx Warranty and Repair

Arc'teryx guarantees the quality and performance of all of their products. Items with defects in materials or workmanship will be replaced or repaired at the discretion of Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. Items that are damaged through wear and tear, misuse, or neglect may be repaired at a small charge.

How do I send back an item for Warranty, or get an item repaired by Arc'teryx?
For Customers in North America and Europe, Arc'teryx recommends that the product be returned to the store or site where it was originally purchased.

If this is not possible, fill out their online warranty form which can be found HERE. They will email you with full instructions on how to send your product to their Warranty and Repair Center. Do not send your item to them without first obtaining an RA number from Arc'teryx.

Arc'teryx is not responsible for items that are lost or damaged during shipping and cannot replace parcels that are lost during return shipment if proof of tracking is not available. Please use a guaranteed delivery service that provides tracking information, insurance, and proof of delivery when sending an item back to Arc'teryx.

For customs purposes, Arc'teryx requires you to provide them with a PHYSICAL address, however, your warranty/repair item can still be shipped to a PO Box.

How do I contact them with questions?
Complete their Warranty or Repair Request Form. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach their Customer Service department at 1-866-458-2473.

What is and isn't covered under the Warranty Policy?
Defects in materials or workmanship are covered for the practical lifetime of the product. Material refers to zippers, buckles and fabrics. Workmanship refers to seams, seam tape and construction. Damage due to wear and tears such as rips, tears, abrasion or UV degradation, misuse or neglect is not covered under Arc'teryx's warranty policy but may be repairable for a fee.

What is covered under the Warranty Policy on Arc'teryx footwear?
Defects in material and workmanship will be covered by Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. The practical lifetime for footwear can vary drastically depending on the frequency and type of usage. Things such as the wearing of the outsole, frayed laces, nicks and tears can indicate that a shoe has surpassed its practical lifetime. These are examples of wear and tear or damage which are not covered by Arc'teryx. If you believe there is a defect in material or workmanship present on your product, please see follow the instructions on how to send it to Arc'teryx for assessment.

What does 'practical Lifetime of the product' mean?
Although Arc'teryx builds their products to last over extended periods of time, nothing lasts indefinitely. Materials will deteriorate and fade over time and moving parts will wear out. Arc'teryx will cover your product under their warranty policy until such a time that they have deemed the product to be worn out beyond reasonable repair. If the product is showing the signs of its age-for instance, the material has become thin or faded, there are rips and tears, the zippers no longer catch, the cuffs are fraying, or the soles are worn-they will take this into consideration when assessing your product for a warranty request. All gear will suffer from differing degrees of wear-and-tear, depending upon the user. Equipment used by an outdoor guide for 150 days a year will by comparison, degrade faster than gear used by a weekend skier. By taking care of your equipment you will ensure a longer lifetime for your gear. Arc'teryx recommends that you visit their Product Care page for more information on how to wash and care for your equipment.

Will Arc'teryx repair or replace my product?
If your Arc'teryx product fails due to a manufacturing defect, where possible, Arc'teryx will repair the item at no charge to you. They have repair centers in both Europe and North America that employ the same custom machinery and techniques that they use to create the original products. If the product is not repairable, or the cost of the repairs exceeds the value of the product, Arc'teryx may, at their discretion, choose to replace the product instead.

What happens if I rip or tear my jacket or pants?
Skis, snowboards, crampons, axes and other sharp equipment will damage clothing and gloves if they come into direct contact with them. Rips, tears, burns and punctures can occur during normal use and while carrying your equipment, and are not covered under the terms of the warranty. To assist you in keeping your product in optimal working condition, Arc'teryx offers a variety of repairs for a reasonable charge. Contact them and they will be happy to discuss your options.

What if I want to have my garment altered or tailored?
Arc'teryx does not offer custom alterations or modifications to their packs or garments at this time. For products made from GORE-TEX® fabrics they suggest using a GORE-TEX® authorized repair facility for alterations. There is a list of GORE-TEX® authorized repair shops in your area on the GORE-TEX® website.

Do alterations void my warranty?
Arc'teryx understands that individuals may, on occasion, wish to tailor their Arc'teryx products to suit their needs. If something should fail which is unrelated to any alterations, Arc'teryx will stand behind their products, provided that the Arc'teryx product is being used as intended. For a list of alteration facilities in your area, please visit the GORE-TEX® website.

How long will it take if I send my product in for warranty assessment and/or repair?
The typical turn-around time is 15 to 20 business days from the time they receive your product to the time they ship it back to you. Keep in mind that winter is the busiest season for warranty and repair service. Arc'teryx will provide you with updates and more accurate estimates throughout the process.

How do I prepare my item for return to Arc'teryx?
In order to comply with health and safety regulations, as well as for the protection of their staff, Arc'teryx kindly asks that all products be cleaned before being sent to them. Products that arrive unwashed may be subject to a cleaning fee before assessments can be made. To find out how to properly clean your garment, please visit the Arc'teryx Product Care page.

How are shipping costs handled?
Customers are responsible for shipping items to Arc'teryx, and Arc'teryx will cover the return shipping costs. Please ensure that you ship the product using a carrier that can provide you with tracking information and proof of delivery. Customers are responsible for their product until Arc'teryx has signed for its delivery.

What do repairs cost?
Repairs covered under the terms and conditions of the Arc'teryx warranty policy are performed at their expense. Costs for non-warranty repairs will vary depending upon the situation. Arc'teryx will provide you with as many repair options as possible based upon the amount of work and materials required and the expected end result. After your product has been received and assessed, Arc'teryx will be able to contact you with repair options and costs. Repairs requiring payment will never be performed without your authorization.

What is the Voltair Avalanche Airbag Limited Warranty?
The Voltair Airbag will be covered under warranty for manufacturing and material defects for the duration of three years after purchase or 50 inflations, whichever comes first.
