The Arc'teryx Men's Beta SL Jacket is a storm jacket for unexpected rain when hiking the backcountry. The Beta SL is made with Gore-Tex PacLite, a superlight fabric that is waterproof while allowing your body to breathe at the same time. The trim fit reduces bulk and stays close to your body so excess fabric won't flap in the wind, while still allowing for a next-to-skin baselayer underneath. The Beta is a short jacket, falling to the hips, with a drawcord for blocking out drafts. At the cuffs, the Velcro adjusters will also seal out drafts at the wrist. With a durable water repellent treatment and WaterTight zippers, water rolls right off without soaking in. Take the Beta anywhere, as it is compact and easily stuffed into your pack until the weather turns. Don't quit your hiking because of a little rain or snow.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

GORE-TEX Paclite

GORE-TEX Paclite
GORE-TEX Paclite is the gold standard for lightweight, breathable elemental protection. Paclite jackets are extremely packable and great to have on hand for windy or rainy conditions. They'll keep your torso dry and comfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from decent but some flaws I know this jacket is aimed for minimal weight. This is my go to jacket i bring in my pack with me everywhere. Its light and has all the basic features I need to get through and unexpected weather. DWR is decent, will last me through a season in Oregon before I have to give it a good reapplication. Given its price point and its need to be light it was lacking features compared to my ar shells. The ONE feature i would like or I think would or should be standard with all shells is a pit zip. With not much more weight the alternative sl hybrid has this and a bit more features. Personally I wouldnt mind a few more grams for some ventilation in my pits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easily my favourite piece of gear I wear this skiing, ski touring, hiking, backpacking, mountaineering... this is the only piece of gear that is required on all of my trips. I know it's not designed as a winter jacket, but honestly, with extra layers in my pack, or on piste at the hill, it's great. I've spent easily over 40 days last year in the winter wearing this with my mid-layers and it breathes perfectly. I knew I'd be using it in winter so I bought a Medium (I'm usually a small), and it seems to fit me perfectly regardless of what I wear underneath. I read some of the other reviews re: being wet after the rain, and I definitely have NOT had this problem... I've been poured on during several multi day expeditions, and I can assure you this jacket has kept me dry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Quality Overall this is a very good jacket. It has been waterproof in extended periods of light rain. I haven't exposed it to a heavy downpour yet. The fit is excellent for my 5'10" 190lb. frame. The fit stays consistent with all types of body movement. The thing I noticed most was that it is a high quality garment for being a simple light rain jacket. The hood adjusts nicely but can be a bit cumbersome to find a way for it to lay out of the way when not in use. The attention to detail in the design of this jacket is very good too. The velcro cuffs are great and the hang loop is very sturdy which can be something that is overlooked on other brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from product has great breathablility and rain protection After owning this jacket for 2 months finally got to test it out in the rain, a 60 degree downpour for about 2 hrs with full pack. I stayed totally dry through out the entire hike, and though had nothing on for a top layer at this temp, did neither sweat or become cold. Can't wait to take out in a little colder temp to see how well the jacket will insulate. The rain beaded up on jacket and dried quickly afterword. Very happy thus far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for the money I have the Beta FL jacket and although I love it I needed a jacket with a little more room for layering and so the Beta SL was my choice. I really wanted the Beta LT which has light insulation and doesn't have that plastic feel but I couldn't get myself to spend that much. I am an Arc'teryx fan mostly because the fit is so well designed. I know I can buy any Arc'teryx product and know it will fit before even trying it on. As for the negative comments below, they obviously didn't do their research and or aren't familiar with Gore Tex waterproof guarantee. Return or exchange it if your not satisfied! This is my go-to winter waterproof jacket when hiking and around town. Keep it clean and it will always be waterproof.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Supberb Featherlight Protection I have had my Beta SL for a little over a month and so far it is proving itself to be an excellent investment. The fit is spot on and leaves plenty of room for layering in cooler conditions. I use the jacket on the hill general walking and also mountain biking. For both purposes it performs excellently. I love the weight of the thing you can hardly tell your wearing it yet it provides complete and lasting protection from the elements. 8 hours on a welsh hillside in sideways rain or at the local trail centre my beta is always there for me. I am completely satisfied with the performance of the goretex paclite fabric, it does exactly what it says on the tin...lightweight protection and maximum breathability. If i wanted something heavy duty or massivley hardwearing i would have bought the Beta AR. For what its designed for this jacket is spot on!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good all around pack-able shell Arc’teryx’s Beta SL shell jacket is a very multipurpose jacket that I have used ice climbing and winter camping as well as summer backpacking. It is made of GORE-TEX PacLite fabric to be durable, waterproof, breathable, and very light weight. Arc’teryx names are designed to help the buyer understand the product better. Beta is their all-around line useful for any activity, and SL stands for super light. Because of that, this jacket is suited best for packing as an emergency waterproof layer on backpacking trips or on trips where you are certain you will be wet for part of it, because it packs small and lite it is the best option when you won’t be wearing it for the entire trip. It has 2 outside packets, a hem draw cord, Velcro wrist cuffs, and a comfortable hood. The only down fall of this jacket is to save weight they cut out pit zippers so if you are worried about over heating in it you don’t have that option to keep cool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for Hiking I've been hiking in the Western US this summer (2011) from 0 to 8850 ft altitude with mostly wind and occasional rain. A month ago I hiked in this jacket in a solid downpour for two hours with a medium weight pack and was dry as a bone. The lack of pit zips in this case wasn’t an issue; I didn't over-heat. It fits me perfectly (XL size for 6'3" height / 46" long-athletic suit jacket). Further, although not a primary concern, the shade of “volcano red” is excellent whereas the typical “fire truck red” colored jackets of many other companies are too bright and unattractive. I considered exchanging my Beta SL for the Alpha LT and its 320N GORE-TEX® Pro Shell 3L. But this jacket has 340NR GORE-TEX® Paclite® 2L, it performs fine, and I doubt at this point I'll gain much for the extra $150 investment required. How much more abuse merits an upgrade from this jacket? If I were doing a major summit ascent over a 1-2 week period in potentially frequent rain/snow with a medium/heavy pack I'd probably exchange this for a more rugged jacket like the Alpha LT or SV but for 95% of hiking/trekking adventures this is sufficient.

Arc'teryx Warranty and Repair

Arc'teryx guarantees the quality and performance of all of their products. Items with defects in materials or workmanship will be replaced or repaired at the discretion of Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. Items that are damaged through wear and tear, misuse, or neglect may be repaired at a small charge.

How do I send back an item for Warranty, or get an item repaired by Arc'teryx?
For Customers in North America and Europe, Arc'teryx recommends that the product be returned to the store or site where it was originally purchased.

If this is not possible, fill out their online warranty form which can be found HERE. They will email you with full instructions on how to send your product to their Warranty and Repair Center. Do not send your item to them without first obtaining an RA number from Arc'teryx.

Arc'teryx is not responsible for items that are lost or damaged during shipping and cannot replace parcels that are lost during return shipment if proof of tracking is not available. Please use a guaranteed delivery service that provides tracking information, insurance, and proof of delivery when sending an item back to Arc'teryx.

For customs purposes, Arc'teryx requires you to provide them with a PHYSICAL address, however, your warranty/repair item can still be shipped to a PO Box.

How do I contact them with questions?
Complete their Warranty or Repair Request Form. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach their Customer Service department at 1-866-458-2473.

What is and isn't covered under the Warranty Policy?
Defects in materials or workmanship are covered for the practical lifetime of the product. Material refers to zippers, buckles and fabrics. Workmanship refers to seams, seam tape and construction. Damage due to wear and tears such as rips, tears, abrasion or UV degradation, misuse or neglect is not covered under Arc'teryx's warranty policy but may be repairable for a fee.

What is covered under the Warranty Policy on Arc'teryx footwear?
Defects in material and workmanship will be covered by Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. The practical lifetime for footwear can vary drastically depending on the frequency and type of usage. Things such as the wearing of the outsole, frayed laces, nicks and tears can indicate that a shoe has surpassed its practical lifetime. These are examples of wear and tear or damage which are not covered by Arc'teryx. If you believe there is a defect in material or workmanship present on your product, please see follow the instructions on how to send it to Arc'teryx for assessment.

What does 'practical Lifetime of the product' mean?
Although Arc'teryx builds their products to last over extended periods of time, nothing lasts indefinitely. Materials will deteriorate and fade over time and moving parts will wear out. Arc'teryx will cover your product under their warranty policy until such a time that they have deemed the product to be worn out beyond reasonable repair. If the product is showing the signs of its age-for instance, the material has become thin or faded, there are rips and tears, the zippers no longer catch, the cuffs are fraying, or the soles are worn-they will take this into consideration when assessing your product for a warranty request. All gear will suffer from differing degrees of wear-and-tear, depending upon the user. Equipment used by an outdoor guide for 150 days a year will by comparison, degrade faster than gear used by a weekend skier. By taking care of your equipment you will ensure a longer lifetime for your gear. Arc'teryx recommends that you visit their Product Care page for more information on how to wash and care for your equipment.

Will Arc'teryx repair or replace my product?
If your Arc'teryx product fails due to a manufacturing defect, where possible, Arc'teryx will repair the item at no charge to you. They have repair centers in both Europe and North America that employ the same custom machinery and techniques that they use to create the original products. If the product is not repairable, or the cost of the repairs exceeds the value of the product, Arc'teryx may, at their discretion, choose to replace the product instead.

What happens if I rip or tear my jacket or pants?
Skis, snowboards, crampons, axes and other sharp equipment will damage clothing and gloves if they come into direct contact with them. Rips, tears, burns and punctures can occur during normal use and while carrying your equipment, and are not covered under the terms of the warranty. To assist you in keeping your product in optimal working condition, Arc'teryx offers a variety of repairs for a reasonable charge. Contact them and they will be happy to discuss your options.

What if I want to have my garment altered or tailored?
Arc'teryx does not offer custom alterations or modifications to their packs or garments at this time. For products made from GORE-TEX® fabrics they suggest using a GORE-TEX® authorized repair facility for alterations. There is a list of GORE-TEX® authorized repair shops in your area on the GORE-TEX® website.

Do alterations void my warranty?
Arc'teryx understands that individuals may, on occasion, wish to tailor their Arc'teryx products to suit their needs. If something should fail which is unrelated to any alterations, Arc'teryx will stand behind their products, provided that the Arc'teryx product is being used as intended. For a list of alteration facilities in your area, please visit the GORE-TEX® website.

How long will it take if I send my product in for warranty assessment and/or repair?
The typical turn-around time is 15 to 20 business days from the time they receive your product to the time they ship it back to you. Keep in mind that winter is the busiest season for warranty and repair service. Arc'teryx will provide you with updates and more accurate estimates throughout the process.

How do I prepare my item for return to Arc'teryx?
In order to comply with health and safety regulations, as well as for the protection of their staff, Arc'teryx kindly asks that all products be cleaned before being sent to them. Products that arrive unwashed may be subject to a cleaning fee before assessments can be made. To find out how to properly clean your garment, please visit the Arc'teryx Product Care page.

How are shipping costs handled?
Customers are responsible for shipping items to Arc'teryx, and Arc'teryx will cover the return shipping costs. Please ensure that you ship the product using a carrier that can provide you with tracking information and proof of delivery. Customers are responsible for their product until Arc'teryx has signed for its delivery.

What do repairs cost?
Repairs covered under the terms and conditions of the Arc'teryx warranty policy are performed at their expense. Costs for non-warranty repairs will vary depending upon the situation. Arc'teryx will provide you with as many repair options as possible based upon the amount of work and materials required and the expected end result. After your product has been received and assessed, Arc'teryx will be able to contact you with repair options and costs. Repairs requiring payment will never be performed without your authorization.

What is the Voltair Avalanche Airbag Limited Warranty?
The Voltair Airbag will be covered under warranty for manufacturing and material defects for the duration of three years after purchase or 50 inflations, whichever comes first.
