The Arc'teryx Men's Alpha SL Jacket is a waterproof jacket for alpine climbing. The SL stands for super lightweight, given its name due to the Gore-Tex PacLite fabric used to keep you dry and comfortable on the mountain. The Gore-Tex not only blocks snow and rain, but wind as well for all around storm protection. when not protecting you from the elements the Alpha SL can be packed down small into the included stuff sack, so it won't take up too much space in your backpack. The trim fit is close to the body and allows for a base layer underneath allowing movement and ensuring there won't be any extra fabric to get caught on gear. A single pocket stays out of the way of your harness and hangs onto a small item such as your headlamp.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

GORE-TEX Paclite

GORE-TEX Paclite
GORE-TEX Paclite is the gold standard for lightweight, breathable elemental protection. Paclite jackets are extremely packable and great to have on hand for windy or rainy conditions. They'll keep your torso dry and comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Jacket For Any Outdoor adventure I attend an adventure tourism program and this is my go to jacket for any of our electives. Whether it be as just a rain shell I pack for a rock climbing or Trekking expedition or as my outer layer for Ice Climbing and snowboarding, this jacket does it all. Super light weight and packs very small which helps for long treks into the back country, very durable for the paclite shell and withstands anything the weather can throw at you! I would recommend this jacket to anyone who does any sort of outdoor activity. Even if the weather looks nice, throw it into the bottom of your pack and you wont even know its there until you need it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent design and minimalist features... I am very impressed with my Alpha SL Jacket and have no real negative comments..This is my second Alpha SL (my first was one from 2005),which had just one chest pocket...and having used and abused it(still waterproof)my Dad is now the proud owner!! Hence i got hold of a new one.. I really like having the two hand pockets which will easily take a map, hat and gloves etc...The fit is athletic and trim with room for some under layers. My main use for this Jacket is an all-round performance shell which lives in the pack whilst at the Crag and comes out when the rain starts(very common in the English lake District!),for hill walking, scrambling and summer alpine use.. IMO one of the better Paclite shells on the market..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made and exactly as advertised I love this jacket, beacuse it delivers exactly what it promises to deliver. I would like to use this review to explain this, and to address two big issues I have with a lot of these seemingly confused reviews going around. Nothing about this jacket should surprise anyone. Here's why: First: It's a Paclite jacket. Obviously it's not as durable and/or breathable as Pro or Active. But it's cheaper and its lighter, and it delivers exactly the same wind- and rain protection. If anyone says a Pro is more rainproof, they're wrong. Pro is more durable (construction mainly) and breathable, and Active is more breathable and (perhaps) slightly more durable (construction). However, this jacket does sport a 40 denier face fabric (although not the super-tough N40p-x, like the Alpha FL), and as such, it is a pretty burly Paclite jacket. For the same reason, it's not the lightest on the market. But for a 40 denier face fabric jacket, it probably is. Second: It might not have pit zips, and it only has one pocket, but this should be very clear just by looking at it. If you know you want pit zips or more pockets, buy a jacket, that has those features. Just know that it will be heavier, and it will cost more. Because, you know, pit zips and pockets weigh more than just fabric, and putting them in takes time and therefore costs money. Complaining that a jacket, you bought, has no pit zips, is like bying a sportscar and complain that you can't fit your entire family in the backseat. Obviously, the car is not therefore flawed, you purchased the wrong car. Like I said, I love this jacket. It is easily light enough to earn its place in my pack on every outdoor occasion, and I have no worries pulling it on for rough use. If you want a lighter jacket, look elsewhere, but be prepared for something like 10-15 denier and much less durability. If you want more versatility (read: durability and breathability), go for the Alpha FL, which weighs only 20 grams more. It does cost 50% more, but I think it's a bargain. I don't feel like I need more durability, but I also don't want a lot less, so for me, this is a great choice. I'm sure I would love the FL too. And for the five stars: It's quite simply beautifully made, for what it is, and Arc'teryx are very up-front about what it is. There should be no surprises with this one, only expected satisfaction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the jacket Great jacket. Small, compact, lightweight, great waterproofing. Appreciate the little travel sack that it comes with. Only complaint is that I wish it had armpit vents. Also it fits me very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile, WP shell with durable fabric This is my winter/summer/spring/fall rain/waterproof shell. Don't need anything more. It's durable, blocks wind and moisture, has excellent adjustability and layers well with softshells, hardfleece, parkas, etc. It's the perfect wp/b piece, not so heavy you question packing it yet functional enough to get you safely through ugly situations. And oh yeah, the fabric withstands scrub oak bushwhacking and bouncing around off rock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great shell jacket I purchased this Jacket in late February. Living in Northern Alberta, Canada I purchased this jack for two reasons. 1. As a outer layer shell to wear in winter on top of a fleece jacket. 2. As an easily packable lightweight waterproof jacket to take on hikes. So far so good as an outer shell. I've worn it in -20 Celcius temps with a simple fleece jacket under and have been warm and toasty. Does a great job blocking the bitter cold wind we get here as well as the snow. I've yet to test in any rainy conditions and will update my review accordingly once i do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All time favorite alpine shell As an ultra-light hiker/climbing, I always seek out products that deliver superior performance with the least weight and smallest packable size possible. The Alpha SL does just this. The Alpha SL packs down to a very small roll, even with the numerous useful zippers (which usually stiffen jackets up and make them less packable). The SL really excels in contrast to other shells thanks to the with the pit-zips. Even as a breathable shell, open pit-zips allow for keeping the jacket on, the wind out, and the moisture/perspiration venting when conditions are just enough in flux you don't want to take the jacket off. I've worn this is sleet and rain storms and the GoreText Pac-Lite has performed superbly. The cut is athletic and fits fine, especially when layering, but might feel a bit roomy in the chest area for thinner individuals (myself included).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alpha at its peak! Well this wont take space nor weigh in to heavy in any backpack. It is a bombproof shell for rainy days and if you ould want it as a windrepelant it would be perfect for that. It can pack down to a size not mutch bigger that my fist and it has never let any rain in. I would recomend it as a everyday rainproof jacket to always be in your pack. hiking, camping, trailrunning and so on. if you feel that youn need sturdier abric the sv is the next alternativ acording to me. I love it end of story

Arc'teryx Warranty and Repair

Arc'teryx guarantees the quality and performance of all of their products. Items with defects in materials or workmanship will be replaced or repaired at the discretion of Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. Items that are damaged through wear and tear, misuse, or neglect may be repaired at a small charge.

How do I send back an item for Warranty, or get an item repaired by Arc'teryx?
For Customers in North America and Europe, Arc'teryx recommends that the product be returned to the store or site where it was originally purchased.

If this is not possible, fill out their online warranty form which can be found HERE. They will email you with full instructions on how to send your product to their Warranty and Repair Center. Do not send your item to them without first obtaining an RA number from Arc'teryx.

Arc'teryx is not responsible for items that are lost or damaged during shipping and cannot replace parcels that are lost during return shipment if proof of tracking is not available. Please use a guaranteed delivery service that provides tracking information, insurance, and proof of delivery when sending an item back to Arc'teryx.

For customs purposes, Arc'teryx requires you to provide them with a PHYSICAL address, however, your warranty/repair item can still be shipped to a PO Box.

How do I contact them with questions?
Complete their Warranty or Repair Request Form. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach their Customer Service department at 1-866-458-2473.

What is and isn't covered under the Warranty Policy?
Defects in materials or workmanship are covered for the practical lifetime of the product. Material refers to zippers, buckles and fabrics. Workmanship refers to seams, seam tape and construction. Damage due to wear and tears such as rips, tears, abrasion or UV degradation, misuse or neglect is not covered under Arc'teryx's warranty policy but may be repairable for a fee.

What is covered under the Warranty Policy on Arc'teryx footwear?
Defects in material and workmanship will be covered by Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. The practical lifetime for footwear can vary drastically depending on the frequency and type of usage. Things such as the wearing of the outsole, frayed laces, nicks and tears can indicate that a shoe has surpassed its practical lifetime. These are examples of wear and tear or damage which are not covered by Arc'teryx. If you believe there is a defect in material or workmanship present on your product, please see follow the instructions on how to send it to Arc'teryx for assessment.

What does 'practical Lifetime of the product' mean?
Although Arc'teryx builds their products to last over extended periods of time, nothing lasts indefinitely. Materials will deteriorate and fade over time and moving parts will wear out. Arc'teryx will cover your product under their warranty policy until such a time that they have deemed the product to be worn out beyond reasonable repair. If the product is showing the signs of its age-for instance, the material has become thin or faded, there are rips and tears, the zippers no longer catch, the cuffs are fraying, or the soles are worn-they will take this into consideration when assessing your product for a warranty request. All gear will suffer from differing degrees of wear-and-tear, depending upon the user. Equipment used by an outdoor guide for 150 days a year will by comparison, degrade faster than gear used by a weekend skier. By taking care of your equipment you will ensure a longer lifetime for your gear. Arc'teryx recommends that you visit their Product Care page for more information on how to wash and care for your equipment.

Will Arc'teryx repair or replace my product?
If your Arc'teryx product fails due to a manufacturing defect, where possible, Arc'teryx will repair the item at no charge to you. They have repair centers in both Europe and North America that employ the same custom machinery and techniques that they use to create the original products. If the product is not repairable, or the cost of the repairs exceeds the value of the product, Arc'teryx may, at their discretion, choose to replace the product instead.

What happens if I rip or tear my jacket or pants?
Skis, snowboards, crampons, axes and other sharp equipment will damage clothing and gloves if they come into direct contact with them. Rips, tears, burns and punctures can occur during normal use and while carrying your equipment, and are not covered under the terms of the warranty. To assist you in keeping your product in optimal working condition, Arc'teryx offers a variety of repairs for a reasonable charge. Contact them and they will be happy to discuss your options.

What if I want to have my garment altered or tailored?
Arc'teryx does not offer custom alterations or modifications to their packs or garments at this time. For products made from GORE-TEX® fabrics they suggest using a GORE-TEX® authorized repair facility for alterations. There is a list of GORE-TEX® authorized repair shops in your area on the GORE-TEX® website.

Do alterations void my warranty?
Arc'teryx understands that individuals may, on occasion, wish to tailor their Arc'teryx products to suit their needs. If something should fail which is unrelated to any alterations, Arc'teryx will stand behind their products, provided that the Arc'teryx product is being used as intended. For a list of alteration facilities in your area, please visit the GORE-TEX® website.

How long will it take if I send my product in for warranty assessment and/or repair?
The typical turn-around time is 15 to 20 business days from the time they receive your product to the time they ship it back to you. Keep in mind that winter is the busiest season for warranty and repair service. Arc'teryx will provide you with updates and more accurate estimates throughout the process.

How do I prepare my item for return to Arc'teryx?
In order to comply with health and safety regulations, as well as for the protection of their staff, Arc'teryx kindly asks that all products be cleaned before being sent to them. Products that arrive unwashed may be subject to a cleaning fee before assessments can be made. To find out how to properly clean your garment, please visit the Arc'teryx Product Care page.

How are shipping costs handled?
Customers are responsible for shipping items to Arc'teryx, and Arc'teryx will cover the return shipping costs. Please ensure that you ship the product using a carrier that can provide you with tracking information and proof of delivery. Customers are responsible for their product until Arc'teryx has signed for its delivery.

What do repairs cost?
Repairs covered under the terms and conditions of the Arc'teryx warranty policy are performed at their expense. Costs for non-warranty repairs will vary depending upon the situation. Arc'teryx will provide you with as many repair options as possible based upon the amount of work and materials required and the expected end result. After your product has been received and assessed, Arc'teryx will be able to contact you with repair options and costs. Repairs requiring payment will never be performed without your authorization.

What is the Voltair Avalanche Airbag Limited Warranty?
The Voltair Airbag will be covered under warranty for manufacturing and material defects for the duration of three years after purchase or 50 inflations, whichever comes first.
