Product Description Item No.   10251190

The Arc'teryx Men's Alpha Comp Hoody is a hybrid jacket for weather protection and warmth while ice and alpine climbing. The Alpha Comp is versatile, using dual construction of fabrics to provide weather protection at the hood, shoulders, forearms, and hem with stretch through the core and underarms. The Fortius 1.0 fabric is stretchy and helps regulate heat. The trim fit falls to the hip, staying out of the way of climbing gear so you can focus on the next movement instead of adjusting your jacket. The hand pockets are lifted and won't get in the way of your harness, even if you have a snack tucked inside. Complete with a durable water repellent finish, the jacket takes on the weather without sacrificing movement or temperature.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This piece is truly unreal… The long awaited re-designed Alpha Comp Hoody has regained it's place as my favorite all around outerwear piece. I've been waiting for 5 years for this incredible rig to return and couldn't be happier with it's fit and performance. I have over 30 days of ice, mixed, alpine climbing and backcountry skiing on them so far and find myself not having to strip layers as often and regulate temperature more efficiently. Complimented with the long awaited pant version, there isn't a better system for stop and go foul weather mountain pursuit. This system beckons five stars out of five. Thank you Arc'teryx for changing the paradigm and setting the bar…again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job the right way I am 5"10 175lbs and although trim fit in Arcteryx does not fit me well, this particular piece fits awesome. The new Gore technology has a different type of backer than normal gore pro and the fortius 1.0 is very breathable. I do have to say that I wish the foritus would have been the 2.0 version found on the gamma mx because this one is so thin. By thin I mean its almost see through. I had a dollar bill in the chest pocket and in the light you can see through it. Overall its a very light piece and breathes incredibly well. I took it hiking and snow mobiling. Not very wind resistant but you dont feel the cold since its only in the torso and the neck and upper chest is covered by windrproof gore. I like this jacket a lot, probably have no use for the gamma mx anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket I love the fit, the materials and the features. Cannot speak about how it behaves when used as intended, because it's been 80s outside and really not appropriate for using it outdoors. The L I bought fit me perfectly. I am 200#, 5'10.5" muscular build. The fabric is very pleasant to touch, the pockets are where you need them, zippers work and the hood is large enough for my sky helmet or can be adjusted to no helmet. I can fit a good fleece underneath or even a light down (with some snugness). Have a few Arcs in my wardrobe and the behave exceptionally well. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most Versatile Jacket I Own Although I have only put the tail end of one season on this jacket, this is easily the most versatile jacket I own. It has excellent heat management properties, and can be worn from light to moderate exertion with ease. Beyond moderate exertion it starts to get clammy. It also works for the weather conditions on most days, so it now takes the place of my hardshell on most 1 day outings. I just carry an emergency poncho incase things get really bad. (PS Arc'teryx please make an emergency poncho!) It has worked great as an ice climbing and skiing jacket, but I have also started using it for hiking in light rain and like it better than my hardshell. IN summary, this is the jacket I now grab when I expect bad but not terrible weather, and has replaced my hardshell for 80% of the days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An ideal solution for most trips For a number of years I’ve relied heavily on stretch-woven jackets (non-bonded soft-shells) for ski touring, three-season mountaineering and ice climbing. In most situations they’ve provided appropriate weather protection as well as the ability to dump large amounts of heat and moisture from perspiration. The problem was that I often felt inclined to carry a hard-shell as a just-in-case measure against wetter conditions. The Alpha Comp provides almost all of the performance and versatility of a pure stretch-woven but with enough added weather protection to leave a hard-shell at home unless it’s a longer trip or a daytrip with a truly wet forecast. It fits as well as any shell in my quiver for climbing or skiing yet it’s still trim enough to wear on its own around town (I’m 6’0 and 185 – wear a size large). It offers a very broad range of comfort over an equally broad range of output levels – this is ideal for activities where a shell layer is pinned in place by a climbing harness or stopping and continually adjusting layers is simply a pain. Note that it doesn’t offer the level of wind protection of a hard-shell; for some regions users will have to adjust their under-layer system accordingly. Overall I have to rate the Alpha Comp as my favorite bird piece based upon real-world comfort, dryness, versatility, weight, compacability and fit. That said, it might not be for everyone. If you’re usually much more concerned about getting wet from rain or snow than you are about getting wet from condensation, then the benefits of a composite might not suit you. It also might not be ideal in regions known for a lot of rain AND wind. But if you tend to be work hard, generate a lot of sweat and are more concerned about moisture management and versatility than wearing body armor – then the Alpha Comp is a very good choice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile jacket I've used this jacket for a while now, and I'm mostly pleased by its performance. The GORE-TEX fabric is placed just right, and the soft and light Fortius 1 is okay, but I would prefer a material slightly more windproof, at least on the front. A bit of stretch in the cuffs would've been nice too, so one doesn't need to adjust them everytime you have to wear the jacket. And it seems strange that Watertight zippers has been used on the softshell material, though it's not really a drawback. Overall the jacket is well-build and perfect for the days where the weather is unpredictable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ice Climbers dream shell Another amazing niche piece from Arc'teryx, as long as your using it for it's intended purpose, or something similar. I read a lot of negative reviews on this jacket from people who were wearing it as a rain coat, or as a towny jacket. Of course it falls short if your asking it to perform it ways it was not designed too. This jacket is NOT water proof, and anyone saying so is clearly missing something. If your wearing this as your outer shell in a consistent pouring WILL get wet. Besides that. This Jacket is great! Amazing really! Perfect for what it was designed for, Ice Climbing, and high activity alpine pursuits. Keeps you dry on the really steep and dripping overhanging ice routes (even those overhanging pillars that tend to give you a real shower) and still breaths well enough to allow you to push hard up that snow gully on the approach and not get soaked from the inside out. Frankly, it's the best shell I have ever used. I simply don't over heat anymore. No more pit-zips, no more soaked back (Under backpack), and no more over heating on approach. Plus you save time by not having to take the shell on and off so frequently, if at all. And another added bonus to having such a breathable shell, when you throw your synthetic jacket on over top everything at the belay, it's like turning on a blow dryer, as the newer synthetics suck whatever sweat you have generated right through the breathable portion of the jacket and dry you out in mere minutes. Hard to believe really how fast this happens. As a side note, the DWR Arc'teryx uses seems to last longer, and simply work better, than any other outdoor manufacturer I have used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! great hybrid jacket. nice trim fit, im 5'10, about 170 lbs. i usually wear medium but i got this in large. its fits perfect, not too big to wear it by itself but it's big enough to put over an atom. its made of hard shell on the high wear areas and a soft shell in the middle. if you're looking for a quality high performance hybrid jacket this is for you but if you're looking for a soft shell jacket i would recommend venta sv if you want a very warm jacket or venta mx for its versatility.

Arc'teryx Warranty and Repair

Arc'teryx guarantees the quality and performance of all of their products. Items with defects in materials or workmanship will be replaced or repaired at the discretion of Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. Items that are damaged through wear and tear, misuse, or neglect may be repaired at a small charge.

How do I send back an item for Warranty, or get an item repaired by Arc'teryx?
For Customers in North America and Europe, Arc'teryx recommends that the product be returned to the store or site where it was originally purchased.

If this is not possible, fill out their online warranty form which can be found HERE. They will email you with full instructions on how to send your product to their Warranty and Repair Center. Do not send your item to them without first obtaining an RA number from Arc'teryx.

Arc'teryx is not responsible for items that are lost or damaged during shipping and cannot replace parcels that are lost during return shipment if proof of tracking is not available. Please use a guaranteed delivery service that provides tracking information, insurance, and proof of delivery when sending an item back to Arc'teryx.

For customs purposes, Arc'teryx requires you to provide them with a PHYSICAL address, however, your warranty/repair item can still be shipped to a PO Box.

How do I contact them with questions?
Complete their Warranty or Repair Request Form. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach their Customer Service department at 1-866-458-2473.

What is and isn't covered under the Warranty Policy?
Defects in materials or workmanship are covered for the practical lifetime of the product. Material refers to zippers, buckles and fabrics. Workmanship refers to seams, seam tape and construction. Damage due to wear and tears such as rips, tears, abrasion or UV degradation, misuse or neglect is not covered under Arc'teryx's warranty policy but may be repairable for a fee.

What is covered under the Warranty Policy on Arc'teryx footwear?
Defects in material and workmanship will be covered by Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. The practical lifetime for footwear can vary drastically depending on the frequency and type of usage. Things such as the wearing of the outsole, frayed laces, nicks and tears can indicate that a shoe has surpassed its practical lifetime. These are examples of wear and tear or damage which are not covered by Arc'teryx. If you believe there is a defect in material or workmanship present on your product, please see follow the instructions on how to send it to Arc'teryx for assessment.

What does 'practical Lifetime of the product' mean?
Although Arc'teryx builds their products to last over extended periods of time, nothing lasts indefinitely. Materials will deteriorate and fade over time and moving parts will wear out. Arc'teryx will cover your product under their warranty policy until such a time that they have deemed the product to be worn out beyond reasonable repair. If the product is showing the signs of its age-for instance, the material has become thin or faded, there are rips and tears, the zippers no longer catch, the cuffs are fraying, or the soles are worn-they will take this into consideration when assessing your product for a warranty request. All gear will suffer from differing degrees of wear-and-tear, depending upon the user. Equipment used by an outdoor guide for 150 days a year will by comparison, degrade faster than gear used by a weekend skier. By taking care of your equipment you will ensure a longer lifetime for your gear. Arc'teryx recommends that you visit their Product Care page for more information on how to wash and care for your equipment.

Will Arc'teryx repair or replace my product?
If your Arc'teryx product fails due to a manufacturing defect, where possible, Arc'teryx will repair the item at no charge to you. They have repair centers in both Europe and North America that employ the same custom machinery and techniques that they use to create the original products. If the product is not repairable, or the cost of the repairs exceeds the value of the product, Arc'teryx may, at their discretion, choose to replace the product instead.

What happens if I rip or tear my jacket or pants?
Skis, snowboards, crampons, axes and other sharp equipment will damage clothing and gloves if they come into direct contact with them. Rips, tears, burns and punctures can occur during normal use and while carrying your equipment, and are not covered under the terms of the warranty. To assist you in keeping your product in optimal working condition, Arc'teryx offers a variety of repairs for a reasonable charge. Contact them and they will be happy to discuss your options.

What if I want to have my garment altered or tailored?
Arc'teryx does not offer custom alterations or modifications to their packs or garments at this time. For products made from GORE-TEX® fabrics they suggest using a GORE-TEX® authorized repair facility for alterations. There is a list of GORE-TEX® authorized repair shops in your area on the GORE-TEX® website.

Do alterations void my warranty?
Arc'teryx understands that individuals may, on occasion, wish to tailor their Arc'teryx products to suit their needs. If something should fail which is unrelated to any alterations, Arc'teryx will stand behind their products, provided that the Arc'teryx product is being used as intended. For a list of alteration facilities in your area, please visit the GORE-TEX® website.

How long will it take if I send my product in for warranty assessment and/or repair?
The typical turn-around time is 15 to 20 business days from the time they receive your product to the time they ship it back to you. Keep in mind that winter is the busiest season for warranty and repair service. Arc'teryx will provide you with updates and more accurate estimates throughout the process.

How do I prepare my item for return to Arc'teryx?
In order to comply with health and safety regulations, as well as for the protection of their staff, Arc'teryx kindly asks that all products be cleaned before being sent to them. Products that arrive unwashed may be subject to a cleaning fee before assessments can be made. To find out how to properly clean your garment, please visit the Arc'teryx Product Care page.

How are shipping costs handled?
Customers are responsible for shipping items to Arc'teryx, and Arc'teryx will cover the return shipping costs. Please ensure that you ship the product using a carrier that can provide you with tracking information and proof of delivery. Customers are responsible for their product until Arc'teryx has signed for its delivery.

What do repairs cost?
Repairs covered under the terms and conditions of the Arc'teryx warranty policy are performed at their expense. Costs for non-warranty repairs will vary depending upon the situation. Arc'teryx will provide you with as many repair options as possible based upon the amount of work and materials required and the expected end result. After your product has been received and assessed, Arc'teryx will be able to contact you with repair options and costs. Repairs requiring payment will never be performed without your authorization.

What is the Voltair Avalanche Airbag Limited Warranty?
The Voltair Airbag will be covered under warranty for manufacturing and material defects for the duration of three years after purchase or 50 inflations, whichever comes first.
