The Arc'Teryx Men's Alpha FL GTX Approach Shoe is a waterproof approach shoe for the trail before the rock wall. The approach can be just as technical as the climb and keeping your feet protected along the way is important so you maintain your energy once you get to the crag. The Alpha FL GTX features an adaptive fit (non-removable) GORE-TEX® liner for waterproof/breathable performance at your feet. This shoe makes day hikes and approaches easy in wet or dry weather, with a super durable upper, made of PU coated nylon yarns, TPU high abrasion protection films and a 3D moulded heel and toe cap. That sounds super technical, and it totally is, but you'll also enjoy the clean, seamless look. The midsole is injected EVA with an injected TPU chassis and a Vibram® Approach outsole with Megagrip compound that will tear across challenging terrain between the trailhead and your destination.

FEATURES of the Arcteryx Men's Acrux FL GTX Approach Shoe

  • Designed for technical approaches and day hikes with the durability and adaptive fit GORE-TEX liner to make every venture comfortable and well supported

  • Keeping the science of the foot in mind these were constructed with durability, breathability, and efficiency for safe traveling in even the harshest of environments
  • The interior liner is separate, which provides an adaptive fit that allows for incredible breathability and weather protection

  • The upper features a non-woven Durable Water Repellent Finish (DWR) microfiber, PU coated nylon yarn, and high abrasion TPU film for the utmost in maintaining air permeability, abrasion resistance, and moisture dispersion. So great.
  • The outer shell is durable while the inner liner is comfortable, the separation of the two providing awesome quick-drying support
  • The midsole cushions and supports while also providing superb flexibility, shock absorption, stability, and traction thanks to the injected EVA foam
  • The seamless one piece upper protects the EVA midsole by sealing it away from punctures, exposure, and pesky abrasion
  • Strategically shaped for stability, traction, and enhanced breaking with the smooth rounded heel strike
  • Custom moulded rubber toe and heel caps prevent the toe from collapsing over time and adds protection to the exposed areas of the upper midsole
  • The sole is Vibram Approach with Megagrip compound, which features lateral durability and anti-slip lugs, sharp heel brake and mountaineering heel brake for superior traction and braking
  • Front and rear pull loops to allow you to put shoe/boot on more easily

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I shouldn't have doubted! I was very skeptical of these shoes the first time I saw them and tried them on in a store. They seemed clunky, too rigid, I tought the mud would get between the liner and the outser shell. I finally bought a pair to give them a try and I was proved wrong. Arc'teryx has done it again. During a 20km on the Great Range in the Adirondacks, the shoes were very comfortable and not as rigid as they first appeared. There was no need to break them in. I wish the removable liner was standard on all models though. Why is it glued or sewed in on this model? As I had feared, the mud does get between the layers and it's not easy to clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I hoped it would be. I've been wanting a pair of these since I first saw them. I needed shoes that are waterproof but not boots. I got a pair for my birthday and I was very pleased. They are snug but then I prefer my footwear that way. I wear a size 10 in "Five Ten" climbing shoes and these seem to fit the same. They are lightweight yet seem sturdy and stable. I haven't had them long enough to address the durability of them but I don't think that would be an issue unless you are very hard on shoes. Arcteryx has been very good to me in having anything repaired in any case.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for me This will probably be the only Arc'teryx product I will not prefer over other brands. The look is great, the materials are superb, but the fit just is not for me. I find the top front of the shoe is flexing every time I take a step and I developed a blister on the top medial side of my big toe from where it flexes in and meets the shoe liner. I returned it and bought another size, adjusted the laces, and tried multiple pairs of socks. I just could not find a way to make it stop flexing and rubbing against that side of my toe. Maybe future models will fit me better because I wanted so much to like these shoes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sending in my second pair for repairs/warranty... Very disappointed with the durability and quality of these shoes. Sending back my second pair after six weeks of use is just unacceptable for $230 shoes. Arcteryx replaced the first pair and I hope they replace this pair, both were delimitation issues (Rand on first pair and sole on this pair). Tired of spending money and time to mail these shoes back, and at this point would really doubting the quality VS cost aspect of Arcteryx. Have had outerwear, clothes and now shoes from Arcteryx and the quality has seemed to go down over the years where prices have remained high.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product Shoes arrived two days after purchasing them online, and I hit the trails in Yosemite two days after that with zero break-in. 34 miles in three days (with a pack), and not even a hotspot. Insanely comfortable, great traction on wet and dry granite (and mossy rocks in rivers), and excellent internal moisture control. All around fantastic product!!! Just ordered the boots too, and pair of the shoes for the wife.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A surpisingly technical shoe that excedes expectations I'll be honest, I had my reservations about Arc'teryx first foray into the world of footwear. Although the construction methods have been tried and test in jackets for years, I was concerned about how this would translate to shoes. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised! First off, the shoe is immediately comfortable. It is much stiffer than I was used to, but this extra stiffness translates to a sturdy and trustworthy approach platform in actual outdoor conditions. The external shell is abrasion resistant and has survived a fair amount of rock rubbing already. I am somewhat concerned about seam delamination at flex points in the shoe, but so far, there are no signs of lamination failure What truly makes this shoe special for me is the sole. The rubber is sticky, the edges are sharp, and the sole is stiff enough to form a solid platform underfoot. I have been pushing the limits of how vertical I can take this shoe and have graduated from 20 degree slabs to full on lead climbing sport routes on early season Squamish granite. Outside of true climbing footwear, I have never seen a shoe which has the technical edging to deal with Skaha crimp rails while also smearing on mossy granite on the sharp end in the cold. The idea of clipping bolts in unusual footwear is a bit unsettling, but the shoes have been bomber. Outside of seeing the long term durability of the shoe, this is by far the best technical footwear I've ever owned.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality. Comfortable built-in sock Bought them a few weeks ago and am currently using them for an around the world trip (RTW ticket) with mixed terrains (snow, desert, rocky, beach, etc). So far the shoes have been great! Only issues are the following: they were fully submerged in water as I was climbing some rocks in the ocean. Took a long time to get the sand out (still some trapped in there)....but the most frustrating thing is that they are still damp. Even after 4 days of wearing them, using a blow drier, etc. As such they are starting to smell a bit. They don't breathe much (to be expected of a "waterproof"/"resistant" shoe)...but are otherwise comfy and quite versatile. I was also hoping they'd blend in a bit more, but they are quite bulky. (I purchased online without seeing them in person).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They rock my socks These shoes are awesome. I've been using them for short hikes and some are in pretty muddy areas. They're comfortable, easy to slip on and off without untying. I'm buying another pair that aren't so orange. I'd wear them 24/7 if I worked outside.

Can i purchase the removable liner in different colors if i want to switch up the color of the liner?

Asked by: Dame
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! So sorry, but the only way to inter-change the liners in the Arc'teryx Acrux FL GTX Approach Shoes are to purchase more then one pair where you can switch them out.
