The Arc'Teryx Men's Alpha FL GTX Approach Shoe is a waterproof approach shoe for the trail before the rock wall. The approach can be just as technical as the climb and keeping your feet protected along the way is important so you maintain your energy once you get to the crag. The Alpha FL GTX features an adaptive fit (non-removable) GORE-TEX® liner for waterproof/breathable performance at your feet. This shoe makes day hikes and approaches easy in wet or dry weather, with a super durable upper, made of PU coated nylon yarns, TPU high abrasion protection films and a 3D moulded heel and toe cap. That sounds super technical, and it totally is, but you'll also enjoy the clean, seamless look. The midsole is injected EVA with an injected TPU chassis and a Vibram® Approach outsole with Megagrip compound that will tear across challenging terrain between the trailhead and your destination.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sending in my second pair for repairs/warranty... Very disappointed with the durability and quality of these shoes. Sending back my second pair after six weeks of use is just unacceptable for $230 shoes. Arcteryx replaced the first pair and I hope they replace this pair, both were delimitation issues (Rand on first pair and sole on this pair). Tired of spending money and time to mail these shoes back, and at this point would really doubting the quality VS cost aspect of Arcteryx. Have had outerwear, clothes and now shoes from Arcteryx and the quality has seemed to go down over the years where prices have remained high.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall very good purchase I've owned these shoes about 10 months now and have worn them on city streets and for walks in the woods. I do not do much scrambling off trails. The shoe is comfortable once I got use to the snug fit ( I had to size up 1/2 size). Ii enjoy the solid feel against ground and the secure footing. The shoe, properly laced, feels great. One problem is that I need a shoehorn to get it on because the inner lining will slip down in the heel area without one. The lining is soft and could perhaps be worn without a sock but I wouldn't try that. The shoes with the red lining are attractive and I've been asked about them by many people. These are unusual shoes because they have less fabric in the build and more leather/rubber(?) which makes them a bit heavy for summer. Yet I wear them nevertheless. I had a pair of Salewa trail shoes and they were lighter and perhaps easier on the feet, but they did not have the secure feeling that the Arcteryx does nor the quality of the build.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great off trail waterproof Fit to size, great feel. Great traction on wet grounds. My only complaint is putting on, it's like a tight sock, I'm glad they have tabs to pull on, honestly don't even need laces. I do have a wide foot and I'm sure that doesn't help, again great shoe , they Are not a fast slip on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I shouldn't have doubted! I was very skeptical of these shoes the first time I saw them and tried them on in a store. They seemed clunky, too rigid, I tought the mud would get between the liner and the outser shell. I finally bought a pair to give them a try and I was proved wrong. Arc'teryx has done it again. During a 20km on the Great Range in the Adirondacks, the shoes were very comfortable and not as rigid as they first appeared. There was no need to break them in. I wish the removable liner was standard on all models though. Why is it glued or sewed in on this model? As I had feared, the mud does get between the layers and it's not easy to clean.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Durable and comfortable fit. I've used this in relatively long approaches over the past 2 months. Fits true to size. Withstands a lot of abuse over rough uneven terrain and is comfortable for extended hiking. Only gripe is that the shoe laces are short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They rock my socks These shoes are awesome. I've been using them for short hikes and some are in pretty muddy areas. They're comfortable, easy to slip on and off without untying. I'm buying another pair that aren't so orange. I'd wear them 24/7 if I worked outside.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality. Comfortable built-in sock Bought them a few weeks ago and am currently using them for an around the world trip (RTW ticket) with mixed terrains (snow, desert, rocky, beach, etc). So far the shoes have been great! Only issues are the following: they were fully submerged in water as I was climbing some rocks in the ocean. Took a long time to get the sand out (still some trapped in there)....but the most frustrating thing is that they are still damp. Even after 4 days of wearing them, using a blow drier, etc. As such they are starting to smell a bit. They don't breathe much (to be expected of a "waterproof"/"resistant" shoe)...but are otherwise comfy and quite versatile. I was also hoping they'd blend in a bit more, but they are quite bulky. (I purchased online without seeing them in person).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I hoped it would be. I've been wanting a pair of these since I first saw them. I needed shoes that are waterproof but not boots. I got a pair for my birthday and I was very pleased. They are snug but then I prefer my footwear that way. I wear a size 10 in "Five Ten" climbing shoes and these seem to fit the same. They are lightweight yet seem sturdy and stable. I haven't had them long enough to address the durability of them but I don't think that would be an issue unless you are very hard on shoes. Arcteryx has been very good to me in having anything repaired in any case.

Can i purchase the removable liner in different colors if i want to switch up the color of the liner?

Asked by: Dame
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! So sorry, but the only way to inter-change the liners in the Arc'teryx Acrux FL GTX Approach Shoes are to purchase more then one pair where you can switch them out.

1. With your foot placed on the ground, nestled in the 90° corner angle of the wall, make sure that your heel is touching the back wall, and that the side of your foot is touching the side wall.

2. Place a piece of paper underneath your foot and draw a line from directly in front of your big toe across to the side wall.

3. Then use your pen and ruler to draw a straight line intersecting the line that you just drew in front of your big toe, back towards the rear wall.

4. Use the above information to help you find your foot measurements, then select the relevant size from the tables below.

Arc'teryx Warranty and Repair

Arc'teryx guarantees the quality and performance of all of their products. Items with defects in materials or workmanship will be replaced or repaired at the discretion of Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. Items that are damaged through wear and tear, misuse, or neglect may be repaired at a small charge.

How do I send back an item for Warranty, or get an item repaired by Arc'teryx?
For Customers in North America and Europe, Arc'teryx recommends that the product be returned to the store or site where it was originally purchased.

If this is not possible, fill out their online warranty form which can be found HERE. They will email you with full instructions on how to send your product to their Warranty and Repair Center. Do not send your item to them without first obtaining an RA number from Arc'teryx.

Arc'teryx is not responsible for items that are lost or damaged during shipping and cannot replace parcels that are lost during return shipment if proof of tracking is not available. Please use a guaranteed delivery service that provides tracking information, insurance, and proof of delivery when sending an item back to Arc'teryx.

For customs purposes, Arc'teryx requires you to provide them with a PHYSICAL address, however, your warranty/repair item can still be shipped to a PO Box.

How do I contact them with questions?
Complete their Warranty or Repair Request Form. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach their Customer Service department at 1-866-458-2473.

What is and isn't covered under the Warranty Policy?
Defects in materials or workmanship are covered for the practical lifetime of the product. Material refers to zippers, buckles and fabrics. Workmanship refers to seams, seam tape and construction. Damage due to wear and tears such as rips, tears, abrasion or UV degradation, misuse or neglect is not covered under Arc'teryx's warranty policy but may be repairable for a fee.

What is covered under the Warranty Policy on Arc'teryx footwear?
Defects in material and workmanship will be covered by Arc'teryx for the practical lifetime of the product. The practical lifetime for footwear can vary drastically depending on the frequency and type of usage. Things such as the wearing of the outsole, frayed laces, nicks and tears can indicate that a shoe has surpassed its practical lifetime. These are examples of wear and tear or damage which are not covered by Arc'teryx. If you believe there is a defect in material or workmanship present on your product, please see follow the instructions on how to send it to Arc'teryx for assessment.

What does 'practical Lifetime of the product' mean?
Although Arc'teryx builds their products to last over extended periods of time, nothing lasts indefinitely. Materials will deteriorate and fade over time and moving parts will wear out. Arc'teryx will cover your product under their warranty policy until such a time that they have deemed the product to be worn out beyond reasonable repair. If the product is showing the signs of its age-for instance, the material has become thin or faded, there are rips and tears, the zippers no longer catch, the cuffs are fraying, or the soles are worn-they will take this into consideration when assessing your product for a warranty request. All gear will suffer from differing degrees of wear-and-tear, depending upon the user. Equipment used by an outdoor guide for 150 days a year will by comparison, degrade faster than gear used by a weekend skier. By taking care of your equipment you will ensure a longer lifetime for your gear. Arc'teryx recommends that you visit their Product Care page for more information on how to wash and care for your equipment.

Will Arc'teryx repair or replace my product?
If your Arc'teryx product fails due to a manufacturing defect, where possible, Arc'teryx will repair the item at no charge to you. They have repair centers in both Europe and North America that employ the same custom machinery and techniques that they use to create the original products. If the product is not repairable, or the cost of the repairs exceeds the value of the product, Arc'teryx may, at their discretion, choose to replace the product instead.

What happens if I rip or tear my jacket or pants?
Skis, snowboards, crampons, axes and other sharp equipment will damage clothing and gloves if they come into direct contact with them. Rips, tears, burns and punctures can occur during normal use and while carrying your equipment, and are not covered under the terms of the warranty. To assist you in keeping your product in optimal working condition, Arc'teryx offers a variety of repairs for a reasonable charge. Contact them and they will be happy to discuss your options.

What if I want to have my garment altered or tailored?
Arc'teryx does not offer custom alterations or modifications to their packs or garments at this time. For products made from GORE-TEX® fabrics they suggest using a GORE-TEX® authorized repair facility for alterations. There is a list of GORE-TEX® authorized repair shops in your area on the GORE-TEX® website.

Do alterations void my warranty?
Arc'teryx understands that individuals may, on occasion, wish to tailor their Arc'teryx products to suit their needs. If something should fail which is unrelated to any alterations, Arc'teryx will stand behind their products, provided that the Arc'teryx product is being used as intended. For a list of alteration facilities in your area, please visit the GORE-TEX® website.

How long will it take if I send my product in for warranty assessment and/or repair?
The typical turn-around time is 15 to 20 business days from the time they receive your product to the time they ship it back to you. Keep in mind that winter is the busiest season for warranty and repair service. Arc'teryx will provide you with updates and more accurate estimates throughout the process.

How do I prepare my item for return to Arc'teryx?
In order to comply with health and safety regulations, as well as for the protection of their staff, Arc'teryx kindly asks that all products be cleaned before being sent to them. Products that arrive unwashed may be subject to a cleaning fee before assessments can be made. To find out how to properly clean your garment, please visit the Arc'teryx Product Care page.

How are shipping costs handled?
Customers are responsible for shipping items to Arc'teryx, and Arc'teryx will cover the return shipping costs. Please ensure that you ship the product using a carrier that can provide you with tracking information and proof of delivery. Customers are responsible for their product until Arc'teryx has signed for its delivery.

What do repairs cost?
Repairs covered under the terms and conditions of the Arc'teryx warranty policy are performed at their expense. Costs for non-warranty repairs will vary depending upon the situation. Arc'teryx will provide you with as many repair options as possible based upon the amount of work and materials required and the expected end result. After your product has been received and assessed, Arc'teryx will be able to contact you with repair options and costs. Repairs requiring payment will never be performed without your authorization.

What is the Voltair Avalanche Airbag Limited Warranty?
The Voltair Airbag will be covered under warranty for manufacturing and material defects for the duration of three years after purchase or 50 inflations, whichever comes first.
