Here at Moosejaw, we work every day to connect people through shared experiences in the outdoors. Cultivating our community and living up to our reputation as "The Most Fun Outdoor Retailer in the World" relies on harmony between two essential ingredients: people and planet. To foster peaceful coexistence and do our part to protect the environment for future generations to enjoy, we are committed to supporting sustainable brands, products, and processes. And we didn't start getting all lovey-dovey about Mother Earth for hipster cred. Sustainability is essential for our lifestyle. It's arguably more important to us than dogs and strong coffee. *gasp* Here's a roundup of the sustainable initiatives we support and some of the brands that are killing it out there. And by killing it, we mean doing a killer job.

Recycled materials can be found in everything from insulated jackets and fleeces to hats, socks, and backpacks. Whether it's repurposing wool or transforming plastic bottles into polyester, making clothing with recycled materials requires fewer water resources and keeps junk out of landfills.

Organic cotton makes a positive impact throughout the entire supply chain. By using non-GMO seeds and eliminating harmful chemicals and pesticides, the production of organic cotton provides safer working conditions, drastically reduces water consumption, and enriches the soil for years to come.

The RDS provides a strict set of cruelty-free guidelines for the production of down insulation. To guarantee the welfare of ducks and geese in the farming of their down feathers, the certification prohibits the practice of live-plucking and the use of feathers from birds who have been force-fed.

The Eco-Friendly label applies to gear and apparel that helps conserve resources and minimize waste. Sometimes the designation refers to how the product is made and sometimes it reflects how the product is used. Either way, you can be sure that you're doing your part to benefit the environment.

Animal-friendly applies to any brand or product that emphasizes the protection of animals. From technical jackets filled with synthetic insulation to 100% vegan footwear and socks made from the wool of happy and healthy sheep, there are many options for the animal lovers out there.

B Corps are companies that look beyond profit-driven motives to reshape what it means to be successful. Certification is awarded through a stringent process that requires companies to demonstrate environmental responsibility and a commitment to their employees and their communities.

bluesign® is an independent certification that promotes transparent environmental standards. With a focus on resource inputs and outputs, including water, energy, chemicals, and emissions, the bluesign® system offers a holistic approach that advances sustainable supply chain practices.

PFC's, or poly-fluorinated chemicals, are troublesome man-made compounds that can end up contaminating the environment for decades. PFC-Free is an effort to move toward a more sustainable future by developing eco-friendly alternatives when designing outdoor gear that is both rugged and weatherproof.

MOOSEJAW'S GANG GREEN

Shout out to our Gang Green for the work they've done through the years as Moosejaw's go-to green resource. Whether it's changing light bulbs in the office, composting, running our garden, hosting clean-up events, adding sustainability tags to products on our website, or scolding Trevor in IT every time he tries to recycle something that isn't recyclable, we appreciate all they do. Well, maybe Trevor doesn't.
