I bought this a few years ago, and after my initial uses while mountain climbing I started to think this jacket may be retired to the back of my closet. It's too hot to climb in and unnecessarily bulky to wear in the tent when you can climb in a sleeping bag.Ironically, while it failed as a permanent member of my climbing gear, it has succeeded as a jacket me and my wife wear casually in cold weather. It is bulky, but you won't look as much like the Michelin man as you think. If you're not short, it's quite reasonably sized actually.The warmth is amazing. Putting it on is like crawling into a mummy bag. The longer I own this, the more appreciate the design and workmanship.

I bought this parka to get the best 800 fill down parka for my money. So far, on the mountain tops in the Chugach Range in Alaska during winter, it has fulfilled its role perfectly. Even at 40mph winds at sub zero temps this jacket kept me warm and snug. It feels like wearing a suit of armor. My only criticism I can offer is that the zippers are a bit narrow and difficult to zip, especially with gloves. Its still doable, but it takes some finessing. Overall, it's a great high quality jacket.
I had one of these in middle school, when North Face was the trend. I was sweating in this jacket in 0-10 degree weather! I was young and bought it a couple sizes too big, so my mom give it away to my uncle. But I remember how it protected me from the city weather. Although, the bulkiness does seem to take away from the style.

I would like to say that I have taken this jacket out and stayed warm in the most extreme of temperatures. Unfortunately, if the needle if begins to dip below freezing, my girlfriend steals it (even if she's climbing). She looks toasty. And of course, that is the most important thing.... When she is not using it, however, I do have the pleasure of carrying it in my pack. Definitely buy an after-market compression sack for this thing, because when you pack it in the bag Northface provides, it looks and carries like a small barrel. To sum up: buy it if you are going on a multi-week expedition in cold temperatures or if you have a girlfriend who gets cold easily.

So I supposedly heard that this jacket was forged in the depths of the Himalayans by a magical sherpa with the help of Zeus. This might be true, or it might be that it can barely describe how amazing this jacket is. I have over 12 north face jackets (including the whole steep tech collection) and I have to say that this is the lightest, warmest, most awesome jacket of all time. It is very puffy but it compresses well, I don't think there is any weather that this jacket won't laugh at.Btw, Moosejaw has to be the best store ever. Customer service is superb and it is a joy to buy from this site.
This thing is awesome. Even though you look State Puffed, it will keep you toasty. I have worn this on multiple expeditions. It kept me warm in -40 on the summit of Denali. It is highly compressible and packs well plus it is light weight. Sizes run a bit large, but it is good for Layering. Pockets are huge and plentiful. It has made an excellent pillow many a cold night in the Alaskan wilderness. I love it!!!

Ok, the Himalayan. Where to start? When i first got it i was amazed by the really small box it came in. When i took it out it I bought the jacket for a harsh winter climate where i live in northern Sweden where the winters truly are #€%&€# cold. The hobomitts, the really thick down filling, the wonderfull hood and the unmatchable warmth are all incredible. Kept me very warm many times when my friends were walking nezt to me and not being as fortunate as to having one of these aka freezing their ends off. Kept me warm without sweating in negative 36 fahrenheit. Recommended for anyone!
