If you like to keep your socks for years and years and years (this sounds grosser than it is), I would recommend looking to some other brands for better longevity. I have had these for probably 2-3 years, and for the first year or so they held up great. They're warm, keep your feet dry, and are solid socks. But then the fabric starts to loosen up, which leads to poor fit and wrinkles, and that can be problematic if you blister as easily as I do when out hiking all day. They've been retired to my "around the house" socks at this point.
"Great sock, a tad disappointing though."
Don't get me wrong, before this sock, the extent of my knowledge of socks were very limited to nike & adidas sports socks. I just bought some clark desert boots and I had no long length socks so I bought this guy to see if I can get two uses: casual & mountaineering. My disappointment doesn't come from fabric, but rather the clamminess that is left on my feet at the end of the day. This has never happened with any other pair of socks, but I do imagine it would do well keeping you from hypothermia in a survival situation.I'm not trying to deter you from buying, I'm just saying you should use wisely. Plain and simple, my feet get sweaty when it's above 35 degrees F.
"These are the only socks I have ever LOVED (and I don't wear socks!)"
I'm a city girl, and wear 5in strappy heels daily. I had to travel to a cold weather location for work, and needed to get some base layers (including socks). After reading reviews about these, I decided to try a pair. I'm not one to ever sing the praises of anything that is not comfortable AND stylish, but let me tell you, I immediately purchased a total of 6 pairs of these Smartwools after one wear. Why? They keep my feet totally snuggy, they do not make my feet sweat at all even when my feet feel like they may be overheating (due to the snow booties I wear), and absolutely no blisters or discomfort after even a long day on my feet. Highly highly recommend these for EVERYONE. One wear, and you will say that you love these socks!!
I tend to blister easy...tmi, I know. I got these after a friend recommended them to because of that. These socks have helped prevent me from getting blisters on long hikes. They are comfy and keep me dry. Not mention they make my feet feel like I'm wrapped in a nice cozy blanket of awesome. Like most hiking socks they can be pricey (when it comes to socks), but when you've hiked for long periods of time in these, I at least can tell the difference.
I have had a pair for over 4 years and I don't want to get ride of them because they are so comfortable. I mostly wear those inside the apartment, but when I get new pairs I like to wear them everyday unless it's summertime and I go sock less.
These socks are incredibly comfortable and functional.. I wore these while hiking in Isle Royal and I have nothing bad to say about them. They are also great for just wearing around the house. These socks are well worth the money
I used these while hiking in the Rockies! Would say they are sized a little big. Ordered child size that said up to size 6.5 I wear a 7.5 and these fit perfect. I like my hiking socks tight though, if they are too loose I find I get blisters easier. Also warm and comfy for every day wear around the house in winter.
"Smartwool Socks are the Best Socks in the World."
Seriously. I am a total convert to SmartWool socks. I know the price tag is high but my feet have felt so much better -- winter or summer, hiking shoes or fancy boots -- since I started wearing these socks. This is the first time I'd purchased a pair of hiking socks by SmartWool but I have been infinitely pleased with them. I like how they are "lightweight" but still thick and cushiony. I can wear them in warmer weather but still have lots of padding in my sock and around the ankle. I have a very bad left ankle and any extra padding around it is much appreciated when wearing my hiking boots.
