These and a pair of Outdoor Lite socks are my goto running socks. The outdoor lite are bit heavier and good for cold weather. These take over at 40+ degrees.Merino wool does everything they say it does. I picked these up after the outdoor lite allowed me to tackle water crossings in trail runs in below freezing weather without a hitch.
"These socks work, are sewn with fine materials, and look great."
I absolutely love these socks! I've been buying Smartwool socks for 5 or 6 years now, and they never disappoint. Well worth the money, in my opinion. I wear these for casual days at the office, hiking, you name it…they work great in every situation. Highly recommended!
"Great socks for trail running or light hiking!"
These are among my favorite trail running socks. They are thin, lightweight, comfortable -- don't bunch up even when wet -- breathable, dry quickly, and have held up very well to at least 50 runs and subsequent washings. If you are wondering how the thickness of these socks compare with the Smartwool Running Light socks and are familiar with Patagonia's wonderful capilene products, the Running Ultra Light socks are like capilene 2 and the Running Light socks are like Capilene 3.
I've had several pairs of Smartwool socks, but the micro's are my favorite. For running or biking (I do one or the other every day). The Running line seem a bit tougher than the biking line and the Ultra Lights are still holding up very strong after a year of weekly use. I've had the biking line and used them for running, and they didn't make it 8 months. If you do a lot of trail running or live in a colder climate, go with the Smartwool PhD Light, but if it's summer and your feet don't need the extra cushion, the Ultra Lights will stay cooler and keep you more comfortable. They fit true to their sizing chart, even if you are on the bubble. Overall, just a darn good sock.
