DECENT FEATURES of the Smartwool Hiking Light Crew Sock
WOW Technology in reinforced sole for maximum comfort and durability
These are my first time purchasing smartwool socks, and so far I'm impressed. They are very comfortable and are just magical when wet or damp compared to the cotton socks that I'm used to. Other reviews have already talked about what I like about these, so that's all I'll say about that. The con for me though is that these are kind of thick for a supposedly "lightweight" sock. I would prefer something much thinner and will be on the lookout for a more lightweight option from smartwool.
Everything Smartwool is advertised to be: cozy, comfortable, breathable, and durable. Obviously a solid hiking sock, but I was surprised at how fantastic they are as a replacement for the standard white cotton crew sock. After wearing these babies, you'll probably never want to wear any other kind of socks ever again.
I'd heard a lot of positive things about merino wool gear; naturally antimicrobial, wicks away moisture, breathes well, etc. I also wanted some thicker socks for hiking, so these looked like the obvious choice. I planned on only using them for hiking, but after trying them out, I don't look forward to wearing regular cotton socks again. After wearing these, you'll be shocked at just how great socks can feel!
"The quintessential hiking sock. Buy it."
Wool socks have long been the ally of outdoorsmen. Since it grows on sheep, wool is an excellent natural temperature regulating material. SmartWool has become the big name in wool foot-coverings. They live up to the standard nicely. These socks will serve you well throughout many a mountain trek. They fit well, they are very durable, and they will keep your feet happy. The only downside is if they get wet, they will not dry very quickly. But this is true of all wool socks. Every avid hiker should have at least a few pairs of these.
This sock has it all. A very comfortable, durable; warm, yet breathable pair of sock that stay in-place on your ankles even after long hikes and comes in pleasant-enough colors that won't scare off the local wildlife. A well-made, versatile, reasonably priced hiking sock.
I have used these socks for months on multi-day packing trips, in my work boots, and just to stay warm and cozy. They are Absolutely Amazing. Be careful though, velcro is its worst enemy :/ ..... and listen to your mother, dont put them in the dryer.
You definitely want to avoid cotton socks if you're running, hiking or doing anything remotely active and these socks are just about perfect. Great length so any medium-length pair of boots won't rub against your bare skin. The elastic at the top means they won't fall down to your ankles and the thickness is sufficient to give some padding during long periods of walking or standing. I'm going to buy multiple pairs of this item in multiple colors this season!
I bought these along with some other smart wool socks for a hiking trip and absolutely loved them. I still wear them all the time during the winter because they're warm, and really nice quality. They shrink a little when first dried, but then they're totally fine. I would highly recommend these!
In the past, I've used very heavy and thick wool socks for my hunting/hiking adventures. I kept reading great testimonials about the Smartwool hiking socks. Well, I decided to purchase a pair and see for myself what the buzz was about concerning these socks. It only took the first time wearing them and I immediately understood the cult following of these socks.......cause they flat our ROCK. They were so light, so comfortable, and kept my feet toasty warm without any sweating....and the best part....no itchy feet. I immediately bought another pair. Thanks MooseJaw!
