I used a Fair Share mug for a long time, which was great for storing food overnight with the screw lid, but I found myself doing that less and less, so I switched to this guy. Works great, very flexible and compact when stored (which was a failing point for the Fair Share Mug). I like that it doesn't take up much space when I'm not using it. Holds warm contents well without getting overly hot. I like the cutting board bottom too, more for the support when holding it rather than actually cutting on it. Easy to clean as well.
"Great bowl but be careful when using the cutting board."
At first I thought it was silly I was spending $15 on a bowl. However after owning and using this for 6 months I have been very happy I had it. The cutting board has worked great and the bowl itself has served its purpose. It is a little bit flimsy but worked well even when filled pretty full. The main problem I have with it is that if you slip with the knife while using the cutting board you can cut through the bowl itself. I noticed the other day that my bowl has a small slice through the side, suppose I will just have to eat my soup a bit faster now. Would I buy it again? Probably not but overall I'm happy with my purchase.
The bowl is compact and easy to clean. The collapsible feature is nice as it allows one to slide it into a thin pocket on one's pack. The volume is adequate as it holds about half of a freeze dried meal (1 serving). It's very good. I will continue to use it on every trip.
I just bought one of these. It couldn't have been made better! It's great for hot or cold, collapses small, and has a hard base to keep its shape when you are holding it.I can't think of anything I could change.Andy

This bowl is a great asset if you're going the minimalist route with backpacking. I was trying to cut down on my pack weight and this was a lifesaver. Folds up nice and small yet still holds up to the job. I used it every night on the trail for dinner and it didn't feel like it would fail on me once.
That bowl can hold a good quantity of food and it folds pretty small so that it fits in any bag. Easy to clean. Pretty solid. Even thought its not the lightest bowl around, its so practical that I use it all the time.
I got the x-bowl and x-cup for a 4 day hike in the Ouachita Forest in AR. Flat out best backpacking bowl you can get. They have been through freezing nights and not cracked, poured boiling water straight in without any damage, and had them wet in my pack for entire days without any growth. The bottom of this bowl is also quite nice as a cutting board. Lastly I am hooked on these and wont be going to the forest without them.
Great packable bowl. It fits the bottom of my GSI Hae Tea Kettle perfectly. Really easy to clean and makes a great multipurpose bowl, plate, and cutting board. Friend of mine bought this to replace his Guyot Designs Squishy Bowl after he saw mine.
"Great Bowl With an Awesome Collapsable Feature"
As someone who likes to pack as little as possible, I was taken with the X Bowl. This bowl collapses down to save space and comes up sturdy when you're ready to eat. I also like the bright colors. I also use the bottom of the bowl as a cutting board. It does tend to retain odors, so wash thoroughly!
"Easy to stow, easy to clean, does what any bowl should do."
I like the collapsible design of this bowl because it makes it super easy to slide down into your pack. The bottom is a rigid plastic that makes a good cutting surface when you're doing your camp-kitchen duties. If you don't need it in bowl-mode, you can just collapse it down and it makes a good plate (also recommended if you are using it as a cutting surface). Cleaning is easy, especially since you can bend back the rubber sides to just lick it clean!
I bought this as a dog bowl for when we're on the road. It packs flat and isn't heavy. I imagine it would be great around the camp kitchen too. I would love too see a non-seamed version (ie collapsible sides and bottom are one piece) to make it weigh even less!
