Moosejaw Staff Pick
"You can't even make it a day without good footwear. That's why my favorite item purchased when I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail was far and away a pair of Solomon XA PRO 3D shoes. During the about 700 miles they lasted, the mid-sole protected like a hiking boot, and the shoe, well, it wore like a comfortable tennis shoe. The XA Pro 3Ds are light, tough, and durable (other than the speed laces), and the contra grip was sticky on all the different trail terrains I hiked."

"Incredible comfort and stability, wear out a little quick for the price" 04/07/13
I am on my 3rd pair of these in the past 18 months. Originally bought them for hiking but they were so comfortable and just all around awesome that I ended up wearing them everywhere. First pair definitely lasted the longest as I had them in rotation with a bunch of other kicks, second and third have gone faster than I would like as I just find myself trying to psyche myself up to wear other shoes. Caveat, I do wear these to work - on a concrete floor in a restaurant where a slow night feels like you are drowning in a volcano - so not exactly what they are designed for. Will probably suck it up and buy a 4th pair soon.
"These are the only shoes to wear for adventure racing. They take the abuse and come back for more." 01/21/13
Look around at the feet of adventure racers, most of them will have these on their feet. From the tops of mountains to the bottom of swamps, these shoes will get you there and back. A little washing in the sink and they are ready for the next adventure.
"Comfortable shoes, but I wore holes in them after two months of casual hiking and dog-walking." 01/14/13
I purchased these shoes because I was looking for a long-lasting pair of shoes that also were comfortable and supportive as I have a previously injured ankle. I used them for approximately two months walking or hiking with my dog daily, anywhere from 1-7 miles or so. I was saddened when I found two half-dollar sized holes in the interior lining of both the left and right shoe. I went to my local Moosejaw shop and turned them in for warranty, but it has been about a month now with no word. These were great shoes...when I got to wear them. Unfortunately, I paid good money for them to sit on a shelf somewhere waiting to be returned or exchanged.
"Good traction, weak upper materials" 11/24/12
Nice light shoe with good traction. Good for mixed terrain, but I have questions about the durability of the uppers. In the few months I have had these (granted I've put some miles on them) the uppers have already frayed heavily in places from trail abrasion. I also am not sold on the lacing system--every stop I find it necessary to tighten them down again. The sole and rand are good and solid though, but I am afraid the upper part of the shoe will not last a full year of use (abuse).
"Oh hell yes" 08/18/12
Replaced my XT Wings w/ these and my Vasque Mindbenders finally bit the dust. We just did the Mt. Whitney Summit and these were badassian. Super breathable, great toe protection, speed laces rule and the soles can take any surface from slippers to scree. Go man go and get these now!
"Do your feet a favor!" 08/18/12
Replaced my XT Wings w/ these after a severe beating in SoCal heat. These are really beefed up in the toe and the soles are really tough for granite and hard rock scree. Love the speed laces and they are super breathable. Just did the Mt. Whitney summit and they excel on light snow and ice. Highly recommend well worth the premium price cant go wrong w/ these baby's!
"great shoe" 08/16/12
I went for a ten mile hike through mixed terrain with these, straight out of the box. They were comfortable for the whole hike and no hot spots. The grip is good on both rock and loose rock. The lacing system is easy to use, and I was able to easily adjust the shoes throughout the hike. That said, I do have doubts if the thin laces will actually hold up to repeated pounding. The size runs true as well. All in all, these seem like a very good trail shoe.
"Most versatile pair of shoes I own." 08/01/12
Bought these a year ago and they are the most versatile pair of shoes I own. Light hiking, dicking around the yard, mowing the yard, walking the dogs, wet-wading, canoeing, cross-fit, shooting sports, I probably wear them more than all my other shoes/boots combined. No, zero, nada, zilch complaints (well, they do get pretty ripe at times). I'll buy another pair when I finally kill this pair but I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon.
"Amazing comfort and fit right out of the box, great traction but questionable durability." 04/26/12
Out of the box I immediately liked the fit and they required little to no break in time. On the trails they hold their own with great traction and I never feared running through the rain and mud. I typically run 15-20 miles a week on the trail and after three months I noticed a severe breakdown in the support and cushioning. It quickly got to the point where it hurt my feet to walk in them. I purchased a second pair and was disappointed to have a similar experience. Overall, I would definitely recommend this shoe to a friend who only hits the trails a few times a month or for more casual wear.
"2 years and still kicking" 03/12/12
Bought a pair of these almost two years ago and i'm about to buy another pair. Great foot protection and all day long hiking comfort. Love the stealth lacing system. Great product and I would highly recommend. My only quam is I wish Moosejaw carried the wide cut.
"Had this shoe before bought some Airmax's said feet hurt bought these again." 03/07/12
These shoes provide excellent support through the mid foot, great cushioning in the heel , and real feel for the ground in the fore foot. You have to force this shoe to fall over on you, the stability is excellent. Great design in the lacing sytem, just pull and tuck and your done. These shoes held up for two years the first time I owned them and I look forward to the next two years in the new pair. I
"Very Comfortable" 12/19/11
These shoes by Salomon are incredibly comfortable. They are easy to slip on and off with the pull drawstrings. The drawstrings seem to be very durable and should withstand the normal wear and tear, just watch out for Kujo. The shoes have great support and are very comfortable. Great for long walks in the city or off the road less traveled. It seems to be very breathable, don't know for sure because it's December and my feet are not gasping for the cold New England air. Great overall.
