"LOVE IT!" 04/14/13
This is an amazing hydration system! I use it all the time fo day hikes here in Montana. It is super easy to use, easy to clean because you can unzip the top plus it is easy to fill and dump if needed. The bite valve is big and doesn't leak which is nice, it fits realy well in my backback. It has a nice clip on the tube to use to clip the bite valve wherever you want it. All around great product! I would buy again if I needed to! :)
"Hiked the whole Pacific Crest Trail with this!" 12/19/12
In 2011, I spent 5 months hiking the whole Pacific Crest Trail. I chose a Platypus because I have always found them to be extremely durable. This one in particular was great for treating water because of the wide opening at the top. It was easy to collect water quickly for fast moving water sources and carefully from small water sources. I had to slide this Platypus in and out of my pack several times a day and then carry it around with all my gear pressing on it all day, every day, for 5 months. It withstood every amount of pressure I submitted it to. Basically, this thing rocks.
"Overall a great bladder" 12/16/12
I bought the 3L and was skeptical about how strong the zip was until i filled the bladder with water and shook it upside down (without the blue plastic closure) and it held strong. The valve makes it easy to drink from. It does not taste like plastic, and the valve/bladder both do not leak. My only issue it that it does not have a welded baffle like some other bladders, so when full it takes up a very cylindrical shape. Because of this it barely fits the hydration sleeve in my 70L pack lengthwise while leaving a lot of room on either side of the width. I would prefer if it was flatter while wider to compensate, but that's just a minor complaint.
"Bestest Bladder Ever!" 11/29/12
Love this bladder!- Simple to fill/clean/drink from (much simpler than many of the other brands that I have tried). The wide top opening makes life MUCH easier.- No rubber/plastic taste at all from the bladder- Quick connect/disconnect for the hose makes it simple to clean and dry, and for filling the bladder from a pump filter - Pretty much ALL of the components can be disassembled to clean and dry them. The only word of caution - it's a tiny bit longer than some of the other brands' 3L bladders and a few daypacks are a tight fit in the bladder pocket.
"highly recommended" 08/31/12
Completely necessary for backpacking and hiking. Most packs have sleeves for water bladders, it is so much easier than having to stop every time I wanted to take a drink. The zip top makes it extremely easy to clean and refill. The mouth piece is a lot easier to use than some other brands I have tried. I don't feel like i am doing to die trying to suck water out.
"All The Right Features" 01/15/12
It is about time someone got this right. Every problem I have had with old style hydration systems was solved with this one. I love how the bag opens up at the top to make cleaning easy. The tube disconnects from the bottom and does not spill any water even with a full bladder. And a cutoff valve so water dosen't leak everywhere. The only issue I had was the tube freezing at night. This can be fixed by either bringing the tube in your tent at night, or buying the insulator tube that Platypus sells.

I have taken this hydration system on two trips and it has worked well for me both times. It fits right into the hydration sleeve on my Deuter ACT pack. I find it to be much better than dealing with bottles. A few concerns: first, because of the rounded shape, it takes up far more space than the its 3 liter volume; second, it has held up well, but it seems fragile; third, it's hard to get all of the pieces to dry out completely--maybe I am missing something.
"Wow, how could something so simple have so much to offer?" 12/02/11
It's a bag with a straw. This thing is great! Love the fact that it opens up at the end with the ZipLock closure. It's SUPER easy to clean. Also I like that the hose just pops off with a valve at the bottom. It's easy to leave the hose strung though the pack and just remove the bladder to refill it. Then Click it back together and you're good to go! Never had any leaks... This thing Rocks!!!
"Nice product from platypus." 11/22/11
The Big Zip SL Hydration System is a well made product. I would go with the 1.8 liter looking back. The 2.0 liter is built more for an actual hydration back pack. The 1.8 is much shorter in length fitting in the top of my pack much easier. ( i have a buddy with the 1.8 and tried it out)
"So Awesome It Was Stolen From My Bag By Airport Security" 11/02/11
I loved my platybag so much! The big zip seal was always secure, even though it feels a little dubious at first, and I never had it leak in about six months of hardcore use. It disappeared from my checked bag when I went through the airport. :( I ordered some platybottles to replace it! The only problem I ever had was that it was near some laundry soap infused washer sheets and it absorbed a lavender-y taste. It didn't go away after a thorough cleaning, but it eventually faded.
