This is a serious piece of hardware, not very lightweight, but as it should be for its intended use. Its simple in design, solid construction, and non-toothed clamp work great. I used this as an ascender at the end of a zip line in case I needed it. I did, and it worked flawlessly. I cant really see using it as a backup belay though, use a shunt or something similar as a backup belay. As a back up belay, I think u could lose a finger if it was in the wrong place and weight came down on the line attached to the rescuecender. Great piece of equipment if, like anything else, you use it right.
