The Patagonia Women’s Down Sweater is actually not a sweater at all. It’s actually a super warm insulated jacket. Those crazy Patagonia Outerwear folks must be losing their minds. At least they are good at making premium 800-fill-power goose down insulated women’s jackets. I wonder if calling it a down sweater when its actually a Superlight, windproof and water-resistant shell is false advertising? Someone should call Patagonia out. It could be a showdown. There could be gunslingers involved. No real guns though, just water pistols.

When looking for down jackets, I was super picky. This jacket really stood out to me, as many of my male friends have purchased Patagonia jackets and love them. This was my first one personally and the specs on it seemed to fit what I wanted, so I gave it a shot. The second I put it on I knew my friends were right about this brands jackets. Even when the weather outside was below freezing, this jacket kept me nice and warm with a shell. I'm 5'4" and 120 lbs and a small fits nicely. It's a little shorter than I'd like, but a medium would swallow me. My only real gripe about it was that I ordered the Nickel color and received pink. However, it's almost like Moosejaw read my mind, because I just didn't have the guts to order that color. It's definitely what I wanted and more.
This is my favorite Patagonia jacket I've owned so far, and I have quite a few. It's light weight and tailored to fit a woman's body (I am 5' 7" 140 lbs and the medium fits great.) Also, do to it's compactability, it fits into a tiny stuff sack for easy storage. Sometimes I wish I had gotten the one with the hood, but the pockets are big enough to keep a cap in so that works, too. Overall, I'm beyond thrilled with my purchase!
I was a little worried how thin this jacket felt, HOWEVER, WHAT a surprise, it is so WARMI EVEN WENT AS FAR AS TESTING IT OUT FIRST I wore the coat with the receipt on it to make sure I loved it!!!! And I do !!!
I have been wanting the down sweater jacket for quite sometime. Finally ordered it in the color Ikat and I am so excited to start rocking it. I am a person that doesn't like bulk, but doesn't like to be cold. I think this jacket fits both of those criteria in a stylish, fashionable and simplistic way. The jacket is a great basic to any fall/winter wardrobe!
Great jacket! This jacket may not look or feel like much but it will definitely keep you warm and cozy. I wear it walking my dogs, running errands or doing just about anything and it keeps the Buffalo chill out!
A very nice down sweater! It isn't bulky at all and it layers well under another jacket on really cold days. Anything down-insulated is pretty great; and a must have if I'm on my motorcycle at all in the fall/winter. This sweater is very compressible as well, and easy to take along on the bike. I'm 5'7" and 160, usually between a medium and large in most things. A medium was perfect in this as Patagonia runs a teensy bit large in my experience. It's a little pricey, but most down-insulated jackets are, and at Moosejaw I got $20 in rewards points back which softened the blow a little :P
I've had this jacket for over a year now. It's lightweight, crumples down into basically nothing so it takes up almost no room in your pack/suitcase, and it's worth exponentially more than its weight when it comes to keeping you warm. This is my go-to jacket when the weather is about 40 degrees and above. I would not recommend for colder conditions than that, unless for short periods of time. One bummer: the shell is not the most durable fabric ever. Mine developed a small hole in the elbow. Still a great buy, however. Oh and all the celebs are wearing these jackets (in black), if that sort of thing floats your boat. Lemon out.
"Bought this for my wife. She loved it! And the staff in the store at Moosejaw was very helpful!"
I was hesitant to buy this for my wife. She wanted it, but I was worried it wouldn't be warm enough because it seemed too light. The staff at Moosejaw explained how warm down is and convinced me my wife would love it. Well she did and still does. I'm very happy with the purchase and my wife enjoys wearing it. One word of caution, don't wear it in the rain (the staff warned me of this). It is not to be worn in wet conditions, but you can get a shell to put over it.
"Great product, but a bit short for tall ladies"
I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a down sweater while it was on sale. I love patagonia's products and this is no exception, but it's a bit short on my tall frame. I'm tall (5'10'') and thin with a long torso and ordered the small. It runs big (I usually wear either S or M in patagonia products) and there is plenty of room for layering. The sleeves are long enough but I could have used another inch or two of length on the body of the jacket. It still looks ok and fits great under my rain jacket, so I'm going to keep it, but beware if you are tall but wear a smaller size.
I ordered this coat to suit both everyday wear in the Michigan winters and any other adventuring I might encounter. So far it has done a great job of keeping the cold out. I was skeptical of the shape when I first got it. The sleeves seemed to be extra puffy around the upper arms but I discovered that this was only temporary and the imbalance went away with a couple wears. I think it fits true to size. I got a medium so i could wear sweaters under it. I usually wear a medium in tops. I am very happy with my purchase.
Bought as an xmas gift and she loves it! Highly compressible, lightweight, looks great, comfortable to wear. The jacket is also very durable and the dwr coating also works a lot better than I would have expected.May be a little expensive, but it is extremely versatile. Can be used as a midlayer in winter, an outer layer in fall and spring. Great for hiking rest stops or when cycling downhill as it blocks wind very well. The size guide was very accurate.
"Cute but down shows thru shell -- not so cute!"
I absolutely love this jacket and the large fits me well...I am 5'5" and about 145 lbs. It isn't tight, as the medium was on me -- I tried one on in another store. It has enough room to wear another sweater or layer underneath totally comfortably. BUT, the Birch White color has a big problem...you can see the down through the shell fabric which gives it this funny mottled appearance. So unfortunately, I'm going to have to return it. I even went to a local store to check out another one and it too had the same issue, so i think it's just that the white shell is too light and too thin to block out the down underneath.
