DECENT FEATURES of the Patagonia Women's Rain Shadow Jacket

Lightweight, 2.5-layer tear-resistant nylon shell with a waterproof/breathable H2No barrier and Deluge DWR (durable water repellent) finish
Highly engineered interior surface texture channels moisture away from skin, protects the waterproof/breathable barrier from abrasion and slides easily over layer
Roll-down, 2-way-adjustable hood with a laminated visor for visibility in poor conditions
Pockets: Two unlined, waterproof hand warmers
All exterior zippers and pit zips are coated with a Deluge DWR finish and are watertight
Updated custom zipper pulls
Micro fleece-lined neck and chin for comfort

"Doesn't hold up in extreme conditions" 12/29/12

I've had this jacket for about 2 years now, and it was fine when I lived in south west Michigan. But then I brought it with me to south east Alaska. It rains a lot there, and I would be soaked after 20 minutes wearing this jacket, which was pretty unfortunate since I worked outside all day. It doesn't breathe well, which I guess is to be expected, but if you are doing any physical activity in humid weather it traps more moisture so it gets wet on the inside. The zipper gets stuck frequently, so I often had to pull it off over my head. I guess this jacket is fine if you are just going to leisurely wear it around town, but for $180 your money could be spent better elsewhere.

"Great lightweight, waterproof jacket!" 05/24/12

This jacket is versatile, lightweight and very waterproof. It is cool enough to wear over a t-shirt to stay dry during a warm summer shower, but is also roomy enough to wear over a fleece or sweatshirt in cooler weather. The adjustability of the sleeves and hood allow the jacket to keep you dry without interfering in tasks or activities. I have it in the pink and have gotten lots of compliments, so I guess it's pretty stylish, too!

"Great Rain Jacket" 03/05/12

I love this rain jacket. It's super light weight, but keeps you completely dry and protected. I'm a consistent small in Patagonia so the small fit great, except maybe the sleeves are slightly long. I had the version of this from a few years ago and the material on the inside always made me sweat. Not the case with this jacket. I know the main complaint with this coat is the difficulty with the zipper, but I find it to be only a tad more rough than any other zipper. I'm fine with that though because the zipper is completely waterproof. A good trade-off.

"Stay dry!" 01/25/12

This shell is perfect for the rain. I'm 5'6" and 125llbs and bought a small. It's a little bit big, but I like the extra room to wear a sweatshirt or fleece underneath for extra warmth. It's not the warmest of jackets but definitely keeps you dry.

"Best Gear Award" 01/15/12

I have crammed, shoved, and rolled this jacket into travel packs, glove boxes, and horse saddle bags while traveling through the Patagonia, Himalayas, and outback of Australia and never regretted buying it! The material is very durable! I love how the designers made it over sized for layering, I have even used it as a winter outer layer while snowboarding. Great long lasting product, worth the investment!

"LJ Buffalo, NY" 09/27/11

I needed a good rain coat for hikes, bike rides (everything, really) and this one is fantastic. I have the "light gecko green" color; it's feminine and I've gotten many compliments. I'm 5'9 and weigh about 140lbs and have a medium (I am a default medium in all Patagonia). Rain is NOT getting through this coat: especially the hood which is fantastic for keeping your head dry. Falls about 2-3 inches below your waist; get a roomy size so you can fit a fleece under it during the colder months.

"Faulty flimsy zipper" 08/10/11

This jacket would be perfect if the zipper was better. It does it's job as far as keeping the rain off you, it's light weight, great for traveling, plus I love the gecko green color.....but there is something wrong with the zipper design. I received this jacket for Xmas and couldn't zip it up so I exchanged it for a new one. Well, the 2nd jacket, after a couple of wears (which again kept me dry!) has the same zipper issues. This time the zipper is stuck and won't go up. A jacket is only as good as it's zipper. Hopefully, I am unlucky and received the two bad zippers that were used and the rest of the jackets are fine. Do you take that risk or not?

"Jacket Failure" 04/30/11

I've had this jacket for about a year and it has held up fairly well, until recently when I needed it the most. I just took a short backpacking trip where it rained every day. The first day i put this jacket on I was soaked though. After about an hour every inch of my body was wet. Armpits, Back, Everything, though three layers of clothing all the way down to my skin. Normally I love Patagonia gear but after this experience I would not recommend this jacket. If your expecting a light sprinkle it should hold up but otherwise you should be prepared to get wet.

"Jacket Failure" 04/30/11

I bought this jacket about a year ago and it's held up fairly well, except recently when I needed it the most. I just went out on a short backpacking trip where it rained every day. "Buy this when your kids go to college...or if you are in college...." 02/10/11

Patagonia has significant thought which goes into any of its products. This jacket keeps the rain out, and allows the moisture from your body to escape as well. You can stuff this very easily into any packet. The sleeves velcro at the bottom so if you reach up over your head the water goes arround your hand and wrist over the jacket, and not down the inside sleeve. 'Very convenient.
