This is by and far the warmest fleece I've ever own, and I'm a bit of a jacket collector and have had quite a few fleeces. Good in wind? Check. Good in cold weather? Check. I've been walking about 25 minutes to work in this jacket in 30 degree weather and am hot when I get there - legitimately hot - even sweating a bit (and I'm not speed walking). Even with only wearing short sleeves under this jacket I was warm. If you want a fleece that's more that just soft and cuddly - one that will actually keep you warm - this is it. Overall, I'm very happy with this jacket. Only wish - under arm zippers for when I get so hot! :)
It's probably the best looking windproof fleece jacket you can buy. I got the black in a size XS. I'm 5'4" and 105lbs. It fits great, although I do agree with the reviews below mentioning the lack of a drawstring. Because it doesn't fit tight around my waist/hips, it can allow a draft in. A cinch cord would correct this. But I still gave it 5 stars, because overall I'm very happy with it.
Without a drawstring this fleece turns into a magnet for any and every draft that kept me consistently chilled. The cuffs also don't have any elastic so drafts get up there too. I have to order a large so I can get the arm length I need, but they end up coming cut for girth. I'm 5'10" with swimmer's shoulders and a 32" waist, about 165lbs. The large begs to be layered... I kinda wish I would have gotten a medium although I'm sure the arms would have been constricting. I went ahead and cut a few holes in the waist near the zipper and added my own drawstring.
I bought this coat for a hike to Base Camp of Everest. I found it to be an excellent coat for the end of the day of hiking. It's so warm once you start moving, that it often becomes way too warm. If you aren't doing much physical activity, it's perfect for mild Chicago days. But, I often find myself shedding it with anything more than walking. If you're thinking of using it for heavy activity, I'd suggest a lower "R". That said, it's very cute and comfy. I get compliments on it often (I have the white one). It washes very well. My 2 year old tends to spill things quite a bit, and it always washes out well.
I could have gotten this Patagonia R4 jacket on the Patagonia website for the same price as it was on Moosejaw- and I was going to before I saw the ridiculous amount I would have to pay for TAXES! Already thinking that spent more than enough money on a jacket I came to this website and guess what? NO TAXES!! Thank you Moosejaw you saved me 20 bucks AND gave me a free flag!
I gave this jacket to my girlfriend for Christmas and she loved it. She is in college and wears it everyday to class. She tells me how warm it is all the time. It is perfect for cold weather and blocks all wind from coming through.
The coat itself is beautiful and well constructed but has an awkward fir around the shoulders. I wear a size 8 womens and ordered the medium and it fits ih the hips and body but the shoulders are constricting. Will be returning.
"The jacket is a ONE OF A KIND. It is soft, lightweight, colorful and extremely warm. We love it."
My daughter wanted a Northface grey jacket for Christmas. I looked and looked in stores and online for a Osito Jacket #1177689 in size XL/Vaporous Grey. Found it on Moosejaw. So excited. She did not get it for Christmas but she got a picture wrapped up. In the meantime I went ahead and ordered the Patagonia plum jacket in an XL. She loved it too.
