for the Patagonia Men's Down Sweater Full-Zip Hoody
"Doesn't hold up with heavy use, But OK for casual daily in town use ... I guess."
I am a tall woman (6'2") so I HAVE to buy men's outerwear. It's just the only option if I want a jacket to reach my wrists and my belt. So, I don't know how it actually fits, for me, the M is quite roomy. My first of these I used as a layer piece under a shell while I was backpacking/canoeing/packrafting in a Alaska for 2+ months. It kept me warm, I was in love with it. But I only owned the jacket for about 6 months before the zipper no longer zipped up! For all the TALK about how GREAT Patagonia is, I was DISAPPOINTED that it didn't last even a half a year! I exchanged it for a new one. Less than a year of use on this one, and the zipper has done the same thing. Even being more careful while zipping it, and deciding not to use it in the field (even though a down layering piece is, in my book, essential) it did not last. If you want a layering jacket that you are going to actually USE outside, don't get this jacket. Or, you can get this jacket, and be very dainty with it.
"the product look great if you don't care about fit. Unfortunately fit makes all the difference."
I ordered the jacket in hopes to keep myself warm in the random field trips I make and for everyday life. loved the color loved the hood however @ 180 & 5'11" my hopes were quickly dashed once I received and put on the jacket. If I were 30lbs heavier it wouldn't be so bad but the boxiness and non-contact with my body really kept from keeping me warm. I know Patagonia is trying for the universal large fit but c'mon large doesn't always mean that we're fat but rather tall & long limbed. Down Jackets need to conform to the body not just make up for size but to fit so we can use bodycontact to let the jacket do it's work. I ordered a Arcteryx size-L and it fits magically! Thank goodness it was on sale otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. If you're rounder around the waste the Patagonia is for you otherwise look for another jacket that may conform to your body when buying a down jacket in this price range.
This coat is the ultimate in down products. There is little to say other than if you're looking here then you need look no further. I am 5'11" 160 and I wear the small as it runs a little big in my opinion.
Since I am 6'3" and 165lbs it is hard for me to find jackets that fit well, but this one does. I ordered the MEDIUM: The sleeves are long enough and the jacket itself sits right around my belt line. I use this as an under layer to my rain jacket, as a jacket by itself, and also as a pillow when I camp. Highly Recommended.
"It's like you're wearing a soft and comfy sleeping bag all day."
Unfortunately, I have short and stocky proportions so it's hard for me to find a jacket that fits my chest AND neck measurements. The Patagonia down hoody does just that. I can zip it all the way up for once! The hood cinches down nicely, conforms to your head, and doesn't get in the way of your peripheral vision. It has a soft and plush feel and I like that it packs down to about the size of a large grapefruit.
"Bought this jacket for my brother on the east coast. He loves it in the frigid NY winter weather!"
Good jacket. Easy to clean, dirt, spills,& wine come right out of this jacket and will look exactly like new. The only thing i wasn't impressed with was the arm cuffs. But i guess thats the Patagonia style. The fit is an athletic fit. True to size, packs down reasonably small too!
I've had this jacket all winter and it's warm enough for about 90% of Chicago's winter if you are commuting via car. When I got it out on the ice while fishing, it was a great layer. Super lightweight, warm and the hooded version provides a hood (duuh) and much more coverage around your neck.
This is a great jacket: super comfy, ultralight, packs small (into its own pocket), good hood.Kept me warm while I was belaying on a long multipitch climb, then was out-of-the-way while hanging on my harness during leads. My two pieces of constructive feedback for Patty-G: The hood is enormous (good when you're wearing a helmet, but the single bungie doesn't quitedo the trick.) And the lack of a chest pocket is inconvenient.Other than those two, this is a bomber jacket -- my winter weather standard!
If you're looking for a jacket that is super comfy, super warm and super stylish....then you have found your jacket. I love this jacket and it seems like other people like it too because I've already got a few comments on it. I went with the black color and it looks very nice. I am about 205 lbs. and 5'11" with an athletic build and the large fits great. I will also be able to fit Patagonia's R1 pullover underneath it as well for some extra warmth. Thanks Patagonia and Moosejaw for another great product.
"This is a must have especially with the Hood!"
Researched everywhere and this product is amazing! Still keep it in the plastic bag it came in because I'm weird and I love it so much. Just used it while camping and actually ended up sleeping with it on because the weather was about 20 degrees colder than I expected, the down hoody worked amazing in conjunction with my down bag. The hoody kept the wind off my face and the breathability held the temp just right! So far I am very impressed with the warmth and quality. Starting to get a man crush on patagonia!
