"I backpack and kayak in the wood and waters of Western Pennsylvania."
The Patagonia Capilene 1 silkweight graphic crew is my favorite piece of apparel. I ordered a second one so I could finally get the first one laundered! Extremely light weight and dries immediately. Love the thumb loops. Nothing but compliments from friends. Working on Patagonia to put a hood on this shirt.
""Can you please take that off now, baby? It needs to be washed!""
I started with Patagonia capilene bottoms years ago when I was living in Leadville, CO. I was putting in hundreds of miles on my cross-country skis, climbing regularly, attending yoga and getting in plenty of turns on my board and on teles at Copper, Monarch and Vail Pass. Obsessed. I broke the shit out of my ankle on late season slush at Telluride and I moved back to Louisiana where there is no need for such technical underwear. Well, I live in Seattle now and have the best of both worlds: great seafood and quick access to the outdoors. I recently purchased this long sleeved base layer hoping for plenty of snow at Steven's Pass. We've had a terrible year so far and the resort has yet to open:( We have however had a snowy weekend in early November during which I decided to go trail running, I have done some hiking and put in many hours at the gym. My base layer has been there all along, not at all itchy like the earlier capilene I owned and loved. I recommend it, highly!
I have always played around with different base layers and never really found one i loved. They were either too tight to wear around and looked weird, or not warm enough. This base layer has been great. Feel so smooth on the skin like silk. I got the matching boxers and as a pair they are so comfortable. Remember when hiking in below freezing, cotton kills.
"Good Fit, nice weight for summer activities."
Got this for a bit of sun protection on my old man skin. I wear it hiking, sailing, Kayaking, Camping. It's got them little thumb thingies too, so come winter time, I can wear it as a base layer and not have the sleeves bunch up under my armpits.
The last few generations of the Capilene Silkweights have been a bit boxier and not as fitted, to the point of me returning them when I get them in the mail, but with this generation they are back on their game. Great fit, super light, longer sleeves and waist. Great shirts. I'm 6'4" and 180 lbs. and I wear a large. I like these for traveling, especially in humid climates (SE Asia, Nepal, Korea). Graphics are cool too. I sometimes wear mine as a do-rag type affair, held in place with a headband. Great look for sunny high altitude days.
