The Patagonia Men’s Capilene 1 SW Crew is the most versatile long sleeve for four seasons. Fore! I couldn’t resist. SW stands for silkweight and this long sleeve is best worn in warm or hot conditions. Alabaster skin keeps you indoors most of the summer? Not to worry, this baby covers your upper half with 50+ UPF sun protection. I know wearing a long sleeve in the heat sounds scary, but this crew will wick away the sweat and keep you cool and dry. In the non-summer months pair it with another layer to kick up the heat. I can’t believe you get all this in a 4.6oz package.

This is one for moving in easy accord with the seasons: in winter and fall throw this on and take the rasp off merino; come spring and summer take the edge off the sun, and at all times stay dry. It’s ideal for the water and dries in the blink of an eye.The new Capilene 1 is light, versatile, hardworking, and as comfortable as it gets. At 6’4” (190ibs) the XL gives me the length I need and fits as I like it with just enough room to roam. In the wearing these are easy as breathing.
Sizing: The shirt runs big, I tend to be between a medium and a large typically (5'10", 175lbs), I ordered the Large since this calls itself a "slim fit" and another reviewer said it ran small, plus I didn't want a tight fit. When it arrived, I could've fit two of me inside of it. WAY too big. I exchanged for a medium.Quality: The shirt itself it excellent. It is very thin and lightweight (specs here are accurate in real life, weighed the exact same on my food scale), the material feels incredibly soft on the skin, and it can be worn in hot climates. Perfect shirt for wearing in warm weather hikes when you are trying to block the sun from your arms and/or are walking through brush and don't want exposed forearms.
"More stretchy than previous Capilene, higher SPF rating"
This is the third incarnation of the Patagucci Capiline 1 base layer I've worn over the past 10 years. I like it the best.I was skeptical as the previous 25 spf, less stretchy silkweight version feels so great next to the skin and has minimalism lightness and strength. Patagonia briefly offered a similar version to the pre-2014 25 spf Cap 1 base layer featuring more stretchy fabric, but with a wide neck. For me, the wide neck version didn't fit well under layers around the collar and it's stretchy fabric felt a little rubbery. This latest version hits the sweet spot. Silky smooth and light. Higher spf rating. Trim cut. Crew neck that's not too loose or tight. I like to wear clothing that's a close fit. The problem with that is sometimes it chafes the arm pits. This is no longer an issue for me with this version of the Cap 1 shirt. I wear this all winter under my work clothes (office job), as a base layer for 3 season sports and as my PJ top (short sleeve) at bed time.
"lightweight, comfy, and wicks as promised"
I have liked Patagonia's products in the past so I expected this shirt to do everything advertised. It does and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a thin, wicking base layer shirt. I have the skin of a cave dweller so I wear it on warm hikes to keep the sun off my miserable skin and it is just dandy for keeping cool. I like the thumb loops to keep the sleeves from rolling up when I put on a fleece layer over it for cooler temps. My scale says 5.9 oz for the large size.
Bought two of the Patagonia Capilene 1 SW for myself last year and liked them well enough to buy some for Christmas gifts this year. These are great for casual wear indoors and out when you want a light but warm extra layer under your sweatshirt or pullover. Sleeves have elastic thumb loops in the inner cuff for outdoor wear under gloves. In TN we have lots of 30-45 degree drizzly and damp days in the winter and these feel really great in that kind of weather. But I think these would be a great addition to anyone's wardrobe regardless of climate. These are thin enough that you can wear them under a sport shirt as well. As far as sizing goes, I wear size L in shirts, and size L in these are form fitting and perfectly comfortable. Only negative from me is this year's edition is $5 more expensive than last year's :-( But treat yourself, you can't go wrong with these.
Capilene 1 is the most comfortable base layer I've ever worn. It's really lightweight and works great to wear in hot weather for sun protection and moisture wicking, and great to wear under layers in the winter. The fabric is really smooth so a fleece won't bunch up on top of it, and it moves with you really well.It removes the sweat from your skin but be careful because it remains on the outer side and cools use down. Watch for dehydration!
"This shirt is the bomb! So glad I have it."
Luxurious, soft as "silk" feeling of this next to skin base layer is just what I wanted to replace my 15 year old Patagonia capilene that I've worn on over 100 trips in the backcountry. I've been so happy with the old one that I purposely searched for the modern Patagonia version. It's the perfect weight for by itself on mild days and I use it under a capilene #3 for the chilly nights. With one more outer layer I'm set on even the coldest temps and feel all cozy and comfy. No itchy feeling or chafing. Got a great price at the Moose and I'm a very satisfied customer. I look forward to wearing it on my Boundary Waters canoe trip the first week of September. Oh, yeah!
"Perfect for hikes and steep climbs on hot days!"
Super lightweight, you can barely even tell you're wearing it. Feels good under a heavy pack, no chafing no itching. Best part about it is it keeps you cool on hot days. When I have a tough steep hike through a lot of brush (northeast) I like to wear long sleeves and pants, not shorts. This shirt is my go to for real hot days (and it dries pretty quick!) Overall another winner from Patagonia! Large fit me perfectly (5'10" 165 lbs)
