The new Patagonia Capilene 4 material is thin, breathable and slightly stretchy with a grid pattern of heavier insulation (think R1 with 1/2 the pile).One thing I have always disliked about balaclava is that my face usually ends up a mess of sweat, breath moisture, and runny nose. Far more often than not I need it to protect my face from direct wind rather than for insulation, yet every balaclava that I've used is the opposite and provides no breathability.This one on the other hand is highly breathable so no more sweat and breath moisture build up, and it succeeds at cutting down the wind exposure.
