This bag is monstrous and carries everything. And it's versatile. It is fantastic for throwing all you camping stuff in and chucking it in the back of the truck for a weekend getaway. It works great for week long trips to the Rockies. It has also handled an eight day adventure in Nevada including kayaking the Colorado, climbing in Red Rocks, and Microsoft conferences in Vegas. That's versatile! This thing can go for the weekend or for the expedition. It is pretty comfy to carry as a backpack and you can even throw your carry-on backpack on top of it to trek through airports.
With the help of a few compression sacks I was able to fit 6 months of clothing and supplies in this duffle for both myself and 3 year old son WITH ROOM TO SPARE !! The material is very durable and the comfortable shoulder straps are genius!! I have heard mixed reviews questioning how waterproof this duffel is but I have no complaints. This bag kept our belongings clean and dry through some pretty intense typhoon weather. I am so happy with this bag I am looking into purchasing 60L for shorter outings
I'VE HAD MY BLACK HOLE BACK SINCE 1990. IT HAS BEEN TO BIG BEND, BELIZE, AND EVEN ON THE EAST COAST (IN-LAWS LIVE THERE)... STRAPPED TO THE ROOF CROSS COUNTRY THROUGH HEAVY RAINS AND WINDS. EVERYTHING INSIDE IS DRY, ALWAYS. AWESOME BAG. AN HEIRLOOM.
This the bag I got for when I want to run away in someone else's get-away vehicle. You really can just throw EVERYTHING in - tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, shoes, clothes, outer layers (pretty sure the body of an average sized person). I love the dual strap system, it has standard carrying handles for throwing it in a moving car and backpack straps when when you're trekking on foot. You can clip stuff onto the outside, but I still like to put smaller bags inside, otherwise you may never find you're looking for. Rugged, durable, ready to go.
"Best Duffel Ever. Its Big. Maybe too big?"

I bought this bag to take on my trip to Russia earlier this year. I got it and started packing for my trip (its a two week trip and I am a girl, mind you, so i tend to over-pack. In fact i had about ten items of clothing that i never even wore). But I over packed: brought about 7 pairs of shoes, 16 pairs of underwear, 3 pairs of jeans, 6 pairs of athletic bottoms, about 5 T-shirts, 4 dresses, and about 8 more dressy shirts. As well as all my toiletries and electronic accessories. The bag was just under 50lbs and still had room to spare. i could have packed a plush throw on top of it all and it would have just been full-- not full to bursting. It held up great too!
First off, I pretty much like all Patagonia products and think they're well made. This product is very light compared with comparable products. However, it doesn't feel like it's as durable or as well built as, for example, the North Face duffel. This bag did hold up with minimal wear and tear while being drug up Kilimanjaro and through various international airports, and in neither place was it handled with particular care or kindness. One other thing to note is that this bag is not 100% water proof. I will deflect a light drizzle but don't expect it to be able to withstand a downpour without some items getting wet (especially those in the outside zip pocket).
I bought this bag for a recent trip to Jamaica. It was the perfect size to fit all my stuff for a couple weeks and had a bit extra room for the things I picked up along the way. It's very durable construction and the shoulder straps are very comfortable even with some weight. I have to say the only thing I wish this bag had was lock holes in the zippers. But it was nothing a little travel cable lock couldn't cover. Bottom It will keep your stuff dry and safe for the off the resort traveler.
