We bought the XXS assuming that our little wouldn't have the toddler sized head that he does as an infant:) He is 11 months and to our delight, it still fits. The fabric is soft so it doesn't irritate him. It's form fitting so he forgets that it's on because it moves with him when he turns his head. The snap flap is narrow enough to fit under the chin without impeding movement. The fact that there are 2 snaps makes it a much better deal because you can stretch the use as they get older. At this point, we just don't use the snaps because it's a great hat, but those chubby cheeks got in the way of the snapping...The color is vibrant and washes very well. Even after all the times we've washed this hat there is still no pilling. The weird shape is the little sun visor part. It isn't made to stick out, so it just fits over his forehead and when he was smaller, it would cover his eyes. We always had to flip up the flap so that it didn't annoy him.
My friend's baby is bald. This hat keeps his fragile scalp protected. We wanted something that would stay on his head, because he has a big bald head and none of the little baby hats stay on his head. It is a nice material that keeps him warm and protects his bald ears. This visor is also very good for his bald forehead. It's like a hoodie for all outfits without a hoodie.
I bought this hat for my 3 year old son who normally doesn't like wearing hats. He kept yanking off the other hats but I didn't want to deal with tying strings so I bought this one instead b/c it's got snaps instead of strings. I bought size L for my son who normally wears a hat sized for 4-5 year olds and it fits him great. I think he may even be able to wear it again next winter--love that there are 2 rows of snaps that allow room for growth. My son loves this hat too--he won't yank this one off! I think it's b/c it's got a relaxed fit and not tight at all, yet it stays on b/c of the snaps.
"The best infant/toddler hat out there for the cold!"
Love this little cap! Easy to get on and keep on!! Little fingers can't get it off, no strings to worry about tying, untying, or getting wrapped around little things while fidgeting. So warm and fidget proof, it is a no brainer for cold play and on the go fun!
Keep your baby nice and toasty for a great price! I love the snap under the chin to keep the hat on during those moments when all you hear is crying and you could only wish to be somewhere tropical! At least you know the hat isn't going anywhere!
"sweet hat (toddler does not need to be sweet, however)"
screaming and crying: who needs it? your kid is hungry, tired, sleepy, poopy, and cold. wait, no, s/he's not cold. you've covered his/her ears and head with soft synchilla fabric that traps heat and feels gentle. you've taken care to make sure his/her chin isn't chafing because Patagonia was thoughtful about this hat's ergonomics. you're a good parent--and, your kid has the coolest hat at daycare. now, if only meeting the rest of a kid's needs were so easy...
"It makes them all warm and fuzzy inside!"
Bottom line is really that this hat is very warm and protects the little one's ears!!!! It also is fantastic because it has a snap which means the little one cannot pull off without permission!!! I am going to order a few more and I so recommend that everyone who is a parent does as well!!!
This hat is adorable and warm and stays put. I love that it snaps and it does not bother my son at all. It is one of the few hats he will keep on his head, and I love that his ears are protected from the cold too!
My Mom bought this hat for my 6 month old daughter. I think my daughter's head just might be on the small side because she is 6 months and still fits into the 3 months size. It looks so cute on her and even better it keeps her warm. I got the pink one and just love it so much.
