The Women's Aspire Jacket by Outdoor Research. This lightweight shell with all-season features provides solid protection when a hard downpour sets in for the long haul. Waterproof and extremely breathable GORE-TEX Paclite takes the wear-and-tear of the trail while TorsoFlo side zippers allow poncho-style ventilation when body heat needs to escape. With no bells or whistles left out, this jacket works as hard as you do but packs down tight once the weather breaks.

Ive only had this jacket for a week but I am in love, or at least quite infatuated. After hiking in pouring rain for the past 5 days underneath Im dry as the sahara, and look good too (love the color trillium!) I dig. Now hopfully it can keep it up because Im due for a wet rainy summer. Overall ya cant beat a good price for a solid jacket.
I've been using this jacket for the past month as my chief rain projection for my field job working on the big island of Hawaii. The pockets are in great places and work well, the pit zips work great. My favorite part, is the hood, it is big, and comfortable! I have a large head and frequently wear hats so having a big hood was important to me.One criticism, it's a slightly noisy jacket. I'm working as a bird bander here in hawaii and it's fine for that, but if I was trying to do surveys where I have to hear every detail of every bird song out there, it would be to much. But if you are just going to be hiking, backpacking, or whatever it would be great.
Let's just say this rocks. Most importantly, the hood fits OVER MY DREADS, zips all the way, and the brim covers my hairline, which has been a real problem for me with other hoods. Took this jacket to NZ: Fiordland and Stewart Island. 8 hours of hiking in a downpour? Didn't notice. It was steamy inside the jacket, but I was dry and warm, never noticed the rain, never worried about failure. It has some intense size zipper vents, from the armpit all the way to the waist hem. I opened almost all the way at some points, and was still dry. I live on the Maine coast. You cannot live on this coast without a kickass rainjacket. For me, this jacket is it. Plus, the blue is great color.
