"Stylish, sleek, wind-resistant, water-resistant, great design"
01/12/11
Bottom line- this soft-shell is amazing. I was surprised to find that this was not only wind-resistant, it handles water very well.Pros- Very stylish. Constantly complimented on how great it looks. The way the seems in the exterior were made adds to the look and, I'd assume, the durability.Waterproof/Windproof. Wasn't expecting much on the waterproofing side, since it is a soft-shell. Handles rain and moisture better than you'd believe. The placement of the zippers and pockets.Cons- Thin insulation. If you're looking for a really warm soft-shell, look elsewhere.(5'11" super-fit dude XL fits great.)As always, Outdoor Research designs with us alpine climbers in mind!
I have the older version which doesn't have the chest pocket, but I believe has all the same features. I went climbing out on Mt. Lemmon and we got totally rained out, even hailing at one point. What really impressed me was the beading of the water on the jacket and it kept me dry the entire time. My pants and shoes were completely soaked by the time we reached the car, but my upper body was totally dry. The only thing I didn't like was when the jacket is fully zipped up it didn't cover my chin or mouth, the stinging spray from the hail was really noticeable then. I'm 5'8" and 150lbs btw.
