I have always gotten cold hands, but not anymore. These mitts kept my hands warm in subzero temperatures and high winds, and I will take them on all cold trips in the future. My hands are a little restricted when wearing them since they are mitts, but they are as dexterous as any mitt I've tried. The cord cinches to maintain a tight fit around the wrist and keep the snow/rain out. They have been fully waterproof in my experience. On the fit, they run true to size and maybe a tad bigger. I chose these over the Arcteryx mitts, mostly because of the better gripping ability I found in the OR mitts.
I bought these mittens because I would always have cold hands when temperatures were below freezing. These mittens have kept my hands warm in everything from frigid Wisconsin winters to the summit of Mt Rainier. I have always worn them on January climbs of Mt. Whitney and Mt. Shasta. If you have ever had cold hands or expect to be in situations where you might in the future, you should buy these. I refuse to go anywhere cold without them!
"Will keep you warm and dry when all else fails"
Used these on Rainier this weekend, definitely a MUST when getting on the upper mountain. My other gloves started to fail after about 12500 ft, and I put these bad boys on and felt great the rest of the way. Also used them when just sitting around camp at cold hours. I love the removable inner layer, those alone are really warm and offer slightly more dexterity than having both layers on. the outer layer can be useful for covering your feet on cold nights as well! Love these things. I have big hands cause I'm a big 6'5 guy, and the XL size is very spacious. Probably could've gone with a Large. Taking these to Ararat this summer.
