I've used the spray on for years, but this was a nice product for my softshells. First off, if you are planning on only doing one product such as a jacket or pair of gloves, go with the spray on. You will use the entire bottle for for just about any decent size garment. I put all of my older softshell items in the wash and was impressed that they came out all dry. They were so waterproof that the spin cycle slung off all of the water on gentle cycle. My old ski pants are pretty fuzzy, but at least they are still dry after a long day of backcountry skiing.

I have washed my Columbia soft shell jacket over 20 times now using nikwax soft shell proof. I get very muddy hiking this time of year and appreciate this wash. It is super gental on the fabric when I use the "hand wash" option on my washing machine. The nikwax gets my jacket perfectly clean. Best of all... It still looks like a brand new jacket even after tons of hiking and washing.
I wasn't sure if this was worth the money, but I went for it to try and restore the waterproofing to my jacket. Worked better than I thought. My jacket is back to the way it was when I first purchased it.
Wow. I love this, my Marmot DriClime jacket isn't even supposed to be waterproof, I added this stuff to it. And whaddya know, nice & waterproof now. I swear this stuff is genious. I havn't taken it in serious downpours, but it works good for the light stuff.

I've used this on my MH Alchemy jacket and my MH soft shell pants, and it works! Made them just like new with water repellent. Just be sure to dry them alone, or everything in the wash will become water repellent along with them. Water shirts and shorts are fine, but water repellent underwear. . .well, it doesn't let anything breath. Not good.

This spray worked well and definitely helped keep my jersey and windbreaker water resistant during a tough eight hour mountain bike race. Would buy again!
This stuff revived an old Patagucci shell that I had considered retiring. Before I used this, the shell would get soaked on the outside, trapping my perspiration inside. After use, the shell breathes like a champ. Water beads and rolls off the outside. The only caution I'd give is that this may leave a faint white stain along seams/stitches. Dunno how it would look on dark colors, but my obnoxiously orange shell shows it faintly, like salt on a pantleg in winter. I didn't buy the shell to look pretty it's orange! , so I'm not bothered by a little extra 'character' around the seams.
I was extremely happy to find out this product existed. The Nikwax Softshell Proof has easy to follow directions. After one wash it brought back the beading ability to all of my softshell gear as well as my hiking pants.
