Bought three of these in XL - one for each of my boys to pack their things when they go to summer camp. Keep loading stuff into them and there seems to always be room for more. No padding on the bottom, so not the greatest for fragile items, but this means that it can be rolled up and packed into a small space when not in use.
The XL is pretty darn cavernous. TONS of space. I'd have to say that the only downside is the soft bottom - if you don't pack this bag almost to the brim, it doesn't hold its shape well. Other than that, it's awesome and seems to be really well constructed. Be aware that you might want to consider getting the strappettes if you're getting the XL or XXL options, as they are big bags that may be difficult to tote any substantial distance if they're weighted down.
I wanted a smaller to midsize duffel, and that's what I got here. Good, durable bag...already been on a few trips with me. I'd say, the only disappointment is that I thought it came with the backpack style straps as well but I was wrong, or just didn't read the whole deal. Either way it's a good pack which I suspect will serve me well for many years.
I got the medium bag and I take it everywhere. It is great for weekend trips to the mountains to a five day trip to Las Vegas. It is bigger than the large duffel bag I got from R E I and the R E I bag stays in the closet. My only complaint with the bag is the shoulder strap, it is curved so it is a bit tough to sling the bag around the neck, but it doesn't stop me from using it
