"150 miles and counting on my set." 08/17/11

I got my set when I purchased my M.S. pack. I have logged over 150 HARD miles on my set. I will be purchasing another set soon because the carbide tips are almost gone and cannot be replaced. I had an issue with one of the baskets coming off but determined that it was actually cracked at the threads. Again, HARD miles. Corrected it with a small amount of epoxy. Anyway, for the hiking I do they work. I just wish I could replace the tips like Leki or Black Diamond. For the casual weekend hiker, they are more than adequate and will save you lots of $$$.

"Good pole but parts fall off" 07/16/11

A good economical pole, I have put many miles on my set. But the rubber foot and basket design is horrible. I have lost my second set of baskets in two years. I don't like the idea of constantly checking my baskets for how tight they are every day I backpack but with this set apparently you have to. Otherwise a good trekking pole.

"For what you pay they are worth it." 09/07/10

For what they cost I would say they are good for a beginner. The first problem I found was that the baskets that are provided are not meant for snow and when I would put the poles into deep snow and pull them out the weight of the snow would yank the baskets off. I solved this buy buying a cheap pair of snowbaskets that screwed onto these poles, although you need to make sure the baskets you purchase are compatible. The spring shocks inside worked well for a while, but after several trips they are less effective. After one season these things have taken a beating, and although they still work I will need to get a newer and better set.

"Great value for your money" 04/01/10

This is my trekking pole purchase and I have to say I'm very happy with these. I was worried because they cost less than most poles I found. But they don't seem cheaply made at all. Very light and comfortable to use.

"Overall, the Rhyolites exceed my expectations for an economical trekking pole!" 02/06/07

I purchased trekking poles for the sole purpose of providing relief for a bad knee that flared up on a recent backpacking trip, and these poles lived up to my expectation on the first outing. The Rhyolites are a tad more weighty that others in the herd of poles, but not enough that I noticed it. They performed as well as my buddy's Komperdells he loaned me, and strides (pardon the pun) above my brother-in-law's Swiss Army brand. They adjust easily and quickly, provide excellent support (I'm 6'4", 245 lbs.), and retract small enough that one won't look like a goober when they are attached to the sides of a Trailblazer CamelBak. You really appreciate the traction of the carbide tips when you c

"Great value pickup" 07/07/06

Worked great on a recent trek near Holy Cross in Colorado. Great value for the price. My friend had a pair of Leki poles which were a bit lighter but not enough for me to question the purchase given the price paid.
