"Comfortable, durable, versatile, sticking it to the man"
I wanted a midsize pack that I could use for climbing and skiing as well as backpacking. That meant something with a beefier suspension than many packs in this size range. The Lookout has the same sort of suspension as Mountainsmith's larger packs, which I've appreciated when I've had to carry a lot of weight. The hipbelt is unique and extraordinary. It is attached at a different angle than other packs, sticking up a bit from the lumbar pad to cup the top of the iliac crest. It works. It might sag a bit if you're sick in the head and load the pack with 60 pounds of gear, but I know you're not that kind of person. It carries skis, snowboards, and snowshoes well. You could carry all at once just for kicks. The strap over the top opening can haul a rope easy. I got the blue color so I look nice. I wanted to be a special snowflake and carry something different than the Ospreys and Gregorys that you see so often on the trail, and this has helped me to live that dream. Highly recommended.
