I am a long term user of mountain hardwear gear and this jacket reconfirmed my love for their brand. While this jacket is not the absolute warmest it is ideal for late winter/spring skiing. The jacket can also be used during the colder part of the season if it is simply worn with a heavy insulator zip underneath. I enjoy the fact that it is light weight so you don't over heat during the warmer parts of the season yet when paired with another lightweight fleece it still keeps you warm in the colder months.
"Beautiful but much lighter than expected"
After receiving this jacket, I realized it was a much lighter weight than I had been looking for. It was beautiful and the same high quality I've come to expect from Mountain Hardwear, but the shell layer was roughly the same weight as a rain jacket, and the inner layer (also a soft, attractive quilted jacket itself) was also on the lighter side. I left the tags on and wore it outside for a test run. Even just a brief walk around my yard in 30 degree weather left me chilly. Bottom line: high quality, gorgeous styling, but lighter than what I should have purchased.
I've had several "High Quality" "Name Brand" jackets, and this one beats them all. The others were showing signs of wear less than a year after purchase (without heavy use), but not so with this one. It is so light and warm. I'm soooo glad that I purchased this one!
This coat is very warm even though it's not bulky at all. The lack of bulk also makes it so that the fit is really flattering. The fleece lining inside is soft and warm. My only complaint is that the color seems a little lighter than it looks in the picture, but at least it makes you visible during the dark and dreary winter days. Love this coat!
