This jacket has provided me with warmth all over the world, in a ton of different activities. The pockets are soft, the hood will save your life, it's light, it packs down, and you will look as good and as hot as you feel. The only things I ask for, Mountain Hardware: pit zips, and a stuff sack somewhere. That's just me being picky. If you are looking for a jacket that can be used all over the spectrum of outside activities, please do yourself a favor and add this to your wardrobe. Ice climbing, rock climbing, mountaineering, hiking, biking, checking the surf, walking your dog, drinking coffee outside on a cold morning while writing a review, this jacket performs.
I borrowed this jacket from a friend and used it on a couple cold days of multi pitch climbing. As soon as I got home I bought my own compressor. There's so much to like about this jacket, It's light, it's warm, but not too warm, the fit is very athletic and climbs well. I wear this thing everywhere I especially like it when I'm riding my bike in cold damp weather. I'm 5'10 and 165 and the medium fits me PERFECTLY as a technical piece if you're mostly gonna be wearing it around town you may want to get a large. My one gripe, and I'm nit picking here, is that the material and construction quality of this jacket is not quite up to par with a Patagonia or arc'teryx piece, but very close.
I currently purchaced this jacket with the hopes of using its leight weight and compressability on the Appalachian Trail this spring. It currently stands up the the 30 degree weather that I reside in but the real challange will be when the temp drops well below freezing. I believe it will do its job and if not it is perfect to layer with and easily fits a fleece or thick hoodie underneath. It also doesnt cook me when the temp rises a bit and I dont feel like I have to start de-layering. Perfect light weight and cold temperature thru hiking jacket.
