Great looking jacket that is suitable for all around use. I get cold very easy and I have found this jacket will keep me warm to -10F. I was worried that the 700-fill down wouldn't be warm enough but the quantity of fill in this jacket compensates for the fill quality. I am 6ft 1" & weigh 150 lbs. I purchased a size medium jacket and find the fit to be ok. I would call the jacket bulky and seems to be a bit large in the lower front.I did find a couple loose threads that shouldn't be on a jacket of this cost. I believe that the fabric on the outside of this jacket will tear easily so you will have to be carefull about that. For my intented use I think I will be ok. If you are intending to use the jacket in areas that are prone to snagging the jacket then you may want to look at something else. In the high wear areas of the outer jacket they have a reinforced abrasion resistant fabric. I would like to see the entire exterior of the jacket covered with this material.
Got this jacket this year for winter summits. It's a little heavier than other jackets in it's class but there are reasons why and it's worth it. First and foremost, it's baffled down. Yes, it's heavier, but the wind and cold won't get through the stitching like many other (lighter, cheaper) downs that have stitch-through construction. The jacket has fleece lined outer hand pockets and collar top. The reinforced areas on the shoulders and arms are great bc you don't have to worry that you'll rip a hole in that thin shiny nylon. This also adds wind and H20 protection, bonus for summits! The jacket is far too warm to hike in, but is perfect for on-trail food breaks, summits, end-of-day in camp sitting/standing around. It has 1 in and 1 out zip med-sized food/key pocket and 1 large (hot!) H20 bottle pocket inside (sooo nice!). Add to sleeping bag for extra warmth! One con: doesn't need (but has) hood that's removable. Hood cinches well to keep wind out. Get it if you want to be WARM!!!
"Very warm, however too bulky for really physical outdoors as you sweat"
This is a Very warm jacket that braves Canadian winters. I have been out in -40 and it has been great. It is also surprisingly wind resistant. If you are to do a really physical activity, shoveling driveway or snowshoeing, I would say that jack set is too bulky for really physical outdoors activities as you sweat! You would be better off layering with a Monkey Man fleece and a Gore-Tex shellAnother great product from Mountain Hardwear
Brought this baby with me on a visit to relatives in the Mountains of Norway. If the Norwegians weren't such an honest lot it probably would have disappeared before I left for home. Well made in all respects and warm baby warm. Asli Olsen gave it a Scandinavian four deers which I believe is better than a thumbs up was from Siskel and Ebert. Anyway I agree with Asli and give it four stars our of four.
