This is a very good baselayer for cold and windy conditions. I wore it by itself in 15 degree weather and had a toasty neck and face. I'm sure that in negative temps this would pair up nicely with a thick neck gaitor and hat, but alone you might get a little chilled. Anything in between 10 and 30 degrees and this by itself will work great!
Was looking for an inexpensive but quality balaclava to use for some winter backpacking and camping in Pennsylvania. The butter balaclava is lightweight but provides plenty of insulation and wind coverage that is well suited for both the trail and use at night while sleeping. I prefer the simplicty of this design as opposed to the more complex style with various front opening designs as it more easily adaptable to a beanie-style hat. Cant beat this performance for $20 - a must have addition to any pack for winter excursions.
I purchased this to make the bicycle commute to work more comfortable during the Wisconsin winters. My coworkers always comment on how warm my neck and forehead look when I get to work.
Mountain Hardwear tends to make pretty good stuff and this is no exception. I got this as a gift for someone and they seem to really like it. Makes a pretty good baselayer for your dome.
Got this for winter cycling/ outdoor pursuits. Keeps you warm and blocks the wind well. I would try this on in person cause it may be uncomfortable to some. Get a Size smaller the cut out was a little to big.
This is my second Butter Balaclava. The first one went to my Dad. Good fit on my large head. Very warm and very soft, while still more lightweight than most balaclavas. It significantly boosts my comfort level in the sleeping bag, and breathes well enough to use on the move. Great product.
