"This is the best jacket I've ever owned" 04/19/13
This is a great combination of warmth and breathability, making it perfect for both warmer and colder weather. I own a Precip, which is a great rain jacket, but if it's at all warm, I end up sweating a lot! The ROM isn’t as rain-proof, but it's so breathable that I can wear it without sweating and feeling, yet it's warm and stops anything short of a hurricane. I'm 5'10" and 165, and the medium is plenty big. It’s just a bit on the big side, which means I can put 2-3 layers on under it, and get super warm. Oh, and I bought the gray/cinder one, and I think I look like Desmond Miles from Assassin's Creed--which is kinda cool too :)
"Update to my previous review" 03/18/13
Just got back from a week long ski trip in Steamboat. Rocked my ROM jacket all week and I love it! Had to upgrade to a large and was glad I did because I was able to fit layers underneath on those high 20s days but did not feel bulky when I just wore a T-shirt. Definitely would recommend this jacket.
"Get it. Got it? Good!" 03/05/13
I am a 5'10 male weighing around 205, but very athletic. I got the medium by accident but I am starting to realize this may have been the fit for me! It is a little snug, but I have been able to fit a sweatshirt underneath with out loosing ROM, but I did notice when I raise my hands above my head, my belly shows and the ladies start running! So that is why I think a large may have fit better. The jacket is very well made and I have worn it several times and have stayed warm. I am heading out to Colorado for some skiing and I am pretty excited to see how this jacket holds up!I would recommend everyone getting this jacket!
"Ode to my ROM" 01/28/13
O soft shell, how do I love thee? Many reasons, more than three.I love thee climbing ice,You are stretchy and o so nice.I love thee on rock,You are snug just like a sock. When it is windy, brisk, and cold,Your pockets, hood, and zipper keep me sold.Should everyone get thee, I do believe.Because a ROM is a Rare breed indeed.
"Pretty darn sweet soft shell" 12/02/12
Recently received this jacket and tested it out this morning. Conditions were not ideal, sort of a misting stuck in the clouds hike, temperatures in the mid-30's and at times on saddles winds were gusting to 60+ mph. The windstopper worked well and I stayed pretty dry and warm with just short sleeves underneath. So far no complaints whatsoever. For sizing info, I'm 6'00", 160 lbs and the medium fits perfectly.
"Perfect for its intended use." 11/17/12
What can I say? A bad a$$ jacket and the best customer service on this side of the Milky Way. Seriously, I checked. Having been a devoted REI member since 1998. I am by and large making the switch and giving this company my hard earned dough. Thanks MJ staff. Frickin awsome.
"High quality technical jacket that impresses the ladies too!" 11/05/12
It performs exactly as Marmot describes. Got DWR coating on it--keeps the rain off well unless it's an absolute downpoor, stretches when you need it too and doesn't ride up when you raise your arms. The windstopper fabric is soft and quiet when you move and makes the jacket look like some kind of athletic hoody you would wear to the gym. The hood is perfectly designed in my opinion. There are non-winstopper panels built into the sides of it that lets the wind come right in when you're not moving. I would rather the jacket be all windstopper with huge pit zips in place of these panels because they get annoying an keep this thing from being the "jacket to end all jackets" for me.
"Great jacket for many uses, met my expectations." 07/02/12
I bought this to be a softshell layer for Rainier hoping it would repel wind and light snow/rain. It did just that. We were in some heavy wind and freezing rain and all I had on was this and a light underlayer and I felt great. the zipper also covers your face which is nice. It is extremely comfortable for everyday use as well. Great jacket for someone who wants to enjoy the outdoors.
"Best softshell ever, but buy a size smaller then normal" 06/16/12
I love this soft shell because it is highly windproof and as waterproof as possible without losing elasticity. I bought it for climbing on cold or windy days. It is not warm enough for cold days when you are inactive, but it is great for 30 to 40 degrees if you are climbing or running. I normally wear a medium in most clothes, but Marmot runs big on me (athletic fit). I am 100% satisfied with this jacket and completely recommend it!
"Buy it." 02/29/12
This jacket is awesome, it has a great fit and lives up to its flattering description of a flexible, breathable, windstopper. I have several other Marmot jackets/layers but I prefer this one because of the range of motion. Bottom line, buy it, you will be glad you did!
"Sick Jacket!" 12/18/11
This jacket rocks and is a great soft shell, the jacket fits really nicely and has long sleeves which help a lot for lanky arms. The jackets made primarily out of soft shell but going up the sides to the arm pits and down the bottom parts of the arms is a stretchy and more breathable material which helps for aerobic activity. I've used it climbing, ice climbing, running and for just wearing around in general. It's a good jacket if you've got the coin I'd recommend it.
"Great all around softshell" 08/13/11
I purchased this softshell last year (in the dark green) right before the dead of winter. I've never owned anything by Marmot but so far, I have been very impressed. This is a great all around jacket. It's very breathable and isn't constricting. I'm not always a fan of jackets because of the bulkiness (especially when I'm driving). But this one is not bulky at all. It actually gives you a very trim appearance. It fits the body very nicely without being too snug. If anyone lives in New England, you'll know that we had a brutal winter last year, and this jacket held up big time. All you need to do is to wear a medium to heavy sweatshirt underneath and you'll be fine.
