"Almost perfect but what's with the zipper?"
These pants fit great, feel great, and perform like a champ in wet and dry, warm and cold conditions. They have a weird feature, however, that i haven't seen in other mountaineering pants: a fly zipper that goes from the top of the bib all the way through the crotch and up the back. I can't figure out why or how to possibly use this. You can't use it for a #2 unless you are totally commando underneath, and to do a #1 you need to unzip your jacket to get to the top zipper. This up-the-butt zipper is also a likely spot for a water leak when sitting in snow. A better design IMO would be to have a deep front zip to be able to unzip from the bottom up, and then let the leg zips go horseshoe around the butt for you know what. Also the zipper cover tab on the back tears away easily on any kind of chair back. I'll live with the positives of these pants, but I wouldn't buy another pair because of the funky zipper.
