"Small, but warm." 11/03/11

From my 2 year experience, this tent will keep you and your tent mate warm, (slept in 0F) as long as you don't open the front door during the night to relieve yourself. The alpinists is very good at trapping and maintaining heat dispersed from your body. I also recommend this tent for anyone camping in dusty or windy areas as the single wall will pretty much take anything. I camped in the outback of Montana throughout September and took hots, colds, and 15-20mph winds in this puppy. Only drawback about this tent is the vestibule is quite small compared to the Thor and due to the width of the tent you might find yourself catching elbows from your mate.

"Waste of 500 dollars!!!" 07/02/10

I bought this "expedition tent" to keep us warm and dry. It failed on both those requirements. It was quick & easy to set up under wet conditions. Last month in June, I went camping on the Temperance river in the North Shore, Minnesota. The tent sides got everything wet even after using waterproof ground sheet as the sides at the bottom leaks. We were freezing all night even with Thermarest mats and down bags. We finally slept after first sunlight as we had stayed awake all night.No more Marmot tents for me! I am really surprised at the poor quality of this tent after spending 500 dollars and I trusted the market name of Marmot.

"Fantastic tent" 08/19/09

Seriously happy with this product, its half the weight of my previous 4 season mountaineering tents. It sets up in a fraction of the time that it took to set up my old northface mountain 25. Used it recently on Mt Baker summit attempt. It had ample room for both my wife and all our gear. The attached vestibule was large enough that all our gear was sheltered from the elements. The price is very reasonable for factory seam sealed single wall tent. This is a great tent

"Rock solid head-turner" 04/14/09

With only one use, I have to say that this is the best tent I have ever used. I set this tent up on a recent hike into the Sipsey Wilderness of the Bankhead National Forest in northeast Alabama. The setup was quick. Easiest pitch since Little League. The light rain and wind we encountered was unnoticable in this shelter. I phoned Marmot because I couldn't find a footprint listed for the Alpinist, they told me that they didn't make one for some reason. I'm sure there is one that fits it, but I thought this response to be quite bizarre. Anyway, I used a small tarp.

"Does just like it should" 10/29/08

Functions perfectly as lightweight, 2-person, single-wall winter tent.Setup is VERY quick. Definitely well designed for situations where you don't want to contemplate taking your gloves off momentarily. Sets up solid and held well in some pretty decent winds (~30mph). Definitely waterproof, and no condensation problems to speak of so far. Ventilation is easily adjusted so it's not too stuffy, not too frigid.One downside is the vestibule size. Not a lot of space for outside gear, but two packs, two snowshoe pairs, and some random gear has proved doable.

"Would recommend." 02/11/08

Bought this tent for an upcoming mountaneering course in the Cascades, Weight was/is a consideration. I am a total beginner, never set up a tent before. This tent took me 5 minutes from the bag to being fully setup including the footprint. The windchill during setup was 0 F. Slept in it that night with a windchill temperature of -6 F. The inside of the tent felt like my unheated garage, not too painful. The only downside was my 15 F 600 fill sleeping bag, that part hurt. Slept in that bag before at 20 F degrees and I was toasty, not that night!! Did I mention I am a beginner?

"Works Great So Far-- Tested Inside." 12/19/07

Set this bad boy up in my condo, turned off the heat for the night and opened the windows. Other than pissing off the neighbors because they had to turn up their heat a little more, I realized this is a great, spacious winter tent. Can't wait to set it up in the real thing.
