If you are one of those "just in case" person, like me, than this replacemnt gives you peace of mind. Have not needed the replacement yet, as our tramping team never had trouble with our jetboil yet!
Although the electric start is a bonus feature, as it can be easily lit with a match or lighter even in windy conditions, it is still a slight design flaw. If you use your jetboil heavily like I do, you'll go through a starter about once a year. Now, a typical mediocre company would either look the other way and just suggest you buy the new generation of the product at full price (new generation jetboils have a much more durable and longer lasting ignitor) or charge you a ridiculous price for the fix to profit even more off of you. I am sure Jetboil is making money off of this, but for under $5 I think this is a perfectly reasonable offering to their obviously valued costumers.
Test your mess before you leave. Have this on hand to fix it if it's broke. Never had to, yet.
We received this maintenance kit and have not used it but, are happy to know if for any reason something goes wrong on the Jetboil, we can fix it now. We received this very quickly and have loved Moosejaw!
