I bought this coat after losing my favorite coat last winter. I ordered size L and it fits well, a little long in the sleeves and body. I would guess its designed for an average to slim build. I'm a little north of 6'0" at 195 lbs. Wear a 42R jacket and 35 sleeve and 33" waist. The jacket is quality and that is readily apparent the moment you try it on. Its a warm coat but if you're trying to climb a mountain in this you're not going to have a good time. Overall, I love the coat.
"Handsome jacket... but a very lightweight parka"
I spend my winters in places where it is straight up cold and subzero temps occur with some regularity. I was looking for a sturdy, warm, winter parka to replace an aging one and I will probably have to return this one. The material is really light weight - more what you would expect in a light jacket than a warm coat. I doubt it would be effective below 30 degrees without some serious base layers. In retrospect, the listing does say the jacket is lightly padded... but I guess the picture made it look much warmer than it actually is... and I guess I didn't understand the concept of making a parka that is not especially warm. Anyway, jacket looks cool... it just isn't warm.
"I think I could cut down 1000 trees in this thing."
This is probably my favorite jacket. It's only been cold enough to wear (30-ish degrees) for about 10 days, but there is nothing I don't like about this jacket. I should rephrase that. I love everything about this jacket. I ordered a large. The length is perfect for my frame (6'3" 175 lb.), the sleeves fit excellent and the pockets are perfect for whatever you need to carry. This thing fits like a glove and doesn't devour my body like my old swim team parka used to. If you are a fan of quality clothes and want something fairly different than a regular technical jacket, this is absolutely for you. Unless you live where it's never cold. Then you should absolutely not get it.
"Expensive, but of course it is since it's incredibly well-built."
I'm 5'11", 160 lbs, skinny (but with a beer belly growing at an alarmingly quick rate) and the small fits like a glove. The fleece-lined hand warming pockets are nice, as are the two inner-pockets; well thought out in terms of considering both form and function. The only gripe I have is not with the product itself, nor with the customer service at Moosejaw (which is excellent), but with the shipping; please if possible use the smallest possible box to avoid annoyingly large customs fees for international shipping. $55.00 bucks just to get it to Toronto? How obnoxious. Anyway, buy it if you want a functional and good looking jacket, winter or otherwise.
