I am a bit of a "germ aphobe" and have one for all of my packs. They are a little tricky to install but well worth it. The rubbing alcohol mentioned in the instructions does help! I find it very easy to use and I don't find it the least bit bothersome to remove to get a drink. Although I am not a cyclist and use it on runs and hikes so I do have free hands. I'd never go without one.
This thing is a lifesaver. I used my camelbak a few times before buying this and the mouthpiece would always drag on the ground and get dirty whenever I put my pack down. This thing saved my life on my last trek... maybe literally. :) I got a lot of goo on the outside of it, and I'm thankful it didn't end up in my mouth.
"Does what it's supposed to - keeps your bite valve clean! Bit hard to install."
This little accessory get's the job done, and plays nice with all the CamelBak products I've tried it with. The trick to having a long and content relationship with your Bite Valve Cover is making sure you follow the installation directions, unlike me. Since I know how to put together anything, ever, I decided to ship them and proceeded to spend a frustrating half hour wrestling with it. Learn from me, friends and neighbors: read from the packaging and heed its command, so that you too can keep your bite valve clean and accessible (the ribs on the outer cover make it easy to open hands-free) without spraining your wrist. Make sure you pick up one for each of your CamelBak systems!
Not necessary most of the time. If the temperature happens to rise above 20 degrees, you might want to carry this and prevent the slight leakage out of your bladder that is inevitable as soon as you fell asleep in your nice dry tent. Or if you tend to drop your bite valve in dirt a lot, this is for you.
"Once you go bite valve cover, you'll never go back!"
Ever reach for your water hose and find who-knows-what all over it? This little gadget keeps that from ever happening again. It also helps prevent the no I didn't wet myself I just sat on my bite valve syndrome, AND you can use it as a hose clip by wraping it around your d-ring before you close it. It's awesome! Get 10!
