This ground cloth is ok. Fits the tent perfect but does not give the vestibule coverage for your gear. I had to buy this ground cloth but I really think it should have came with the my tent. Oh well. Its light, I don't notice any added weight since i started bringing it around with my tent. It also gives you options on how you want to pitch your Mesa which I like because you don't always have to use the whole tent you can just use your rainfly, and ground cloth and you're good to go!
"Does its job well. Great deal when it is free."
We got this footprint for free during a Moosejaw promotion. It was the perfect fit for our Black Diamond tent. It's easy to care for and is super lightweight. It is nice when it is free but I'm not sure I would shell out the $30-$40 dollars for it.
"Good, would be better if cut to include vestibules"
This footprint does what its supposed to and can double as a black toga for an impromptu party. I am a little dissapointed that it is not cut to include a footprint for the vestible as well. It may cost a few extra grams of weight, but when all you have is a dirty or muddy place to pitch a tent, its nice to have something clean to store your bag and stuff on. Still...as it was free with the tent purchase, how can I complain.
"A strange cloth for a really good tent."
Footprint is very well made and will work indepedently with the rainfly. In order to use it with the tent, one has to do aftermarket modification by adding a loop of cord to each corner strap grommet and then staking the fly out on the ground along with the loops on the four corners of the tent. Black diamond tells you to do this specifically in the instructions. This is a bit odd and inconvenient, especially when you consider the price of the footprint and Black Diamond's reputation. I called BD, and they mailed me cord, but did not explain why they made the cloth this way. The Mesa tent itself is a great, lightweight shelter.
