I bought this helmet a few years ago and lost it recently on a snowboarding trip, I came to moosejaw and ordered a Smith Holt Helmet to replace it and didnt end up liking it very much. I went ahead and bought another Bern Watts, in the Hard Hat Version, to replace my old one because I liked it so much. Its light, its fits snugly and low, doenst make you head feel like its gigantic. I have a 55.5cm head, and with the winter liner the medium is great, but without the liner i need to be in a small helmet. I will say that the ear pads on the Smith Holt felt a little bit better, but the winter liner covers the back of your neck which is a plus. I only wish they still stocked it in Neon Green.
I am right in the middle of the Large sizing sheet and was a bit surprised how snug it was when I first tried it on. After only one day of riding it feels almost perfect now. I realized that most of the discomfort came from the knit liner around the forehead but it has since stretched out just enough that it feels almost perfect now. Helmet looks good on my head and kept me perfectly warm in temperature in the 20s.
Pretty much this helmet passes all expectations I could possibly have for a helmet. It is the most durable and comfortable helmet I have ridden so far. Unlike most other helmets, the Bern does not have a break away ear flap system that inevitably falls apart after a year of use. Instead, the Watts helmet, along with most of Bern's other helmets use the snap-in knit ear covers which will keep you cozy on the coldest days. Also if you have a rather large head like myself, any other XL helmet makes me look like I have the biggest head on the planet. The Bern doesn't. Pretty much any flaw you can find in a helmet cannot be found in this one.
