Moosejaw Staff Pick "I got my Arcteryx Hyllus Hoody way back when it used to be called the Arcteryx Hercules (or Arc Herc to the cools). The best feature of the Hyllus is the high-loft fleece interior that really traps air and keeps me warm, even when the temps hit the 30's. I'm also really glad that I went hoody because I'm basically too lazy/forgetful to throw on a beanie when I roll in the morning, so the lined hood comes in very handy when I get caught pumping gas in an arctic blast." The Men's Hyllus hoody by Arcteryx turns up the heat another notch, so much so that you'll want to take this one with you from Cold Mountain to Mt. Washington. That's right, the Hyllus Hoody has a hi-loft interior that creates a warm zone, and the air-permeable outer face provides maximum breathability during active use. This fleece jacket makes layering simple and delivers a pill-free finish that stays looking new. Think of the Hyllus as your go-to outer-wear for getting through those cold lulls of winter, to making the most out of what's around.

"A warm jacket sure to make people think you know what your're doing"
This jacket keeps me warm down to about 40 degrees by itself, but it is also great for layering. I wore my Hyllus skiing underneath a hardshell this past winter and could not have been happier. The only thing I do not absoluteliy love is the fit. I am about 5'11", 130 lbs so that puts me right between a small and medium. I went with the medium for the overall length, but the chest is not as tight as I would like it to be. I bought the road rash red color with the contrasting purple interior fleece and am always getting complements on the looks. Note: I'd say that the road rash red color is more of an orange shade
I wear my Hyllus on cooler days (25-40F) with a base layer when I am doing a higher intensity activity such as hiking. It was my "go to" piece this winter. As other reviewers have noted, it is not wind-resistant and is not intended to be. But it provides good insulation and some water resistance. I am 6'2" 210 and find that the xl works well and allows for a base layer and a mid-layer (typically an R-1). The sleeves are a little long, though. The hood works well and is easy to adjust. I also have an Atom LT pullover, but the Atom is less breathable and is better suited for less intensive activities. My main criticism is the cuff. The cuff on the Atom is much better designed.
This is my 2nd hyllus hoody, i had the old school hercules jacket which arcteryx rename to hyllus.. i like the look and the colors, people always ask me why i purchase jackets from arcteryx (i.e. $$$). My simply reply is my arcteryx jackets last longer then the 5 cheap jackets you went thru already...hahaha seriously you get what you pay for, so if you got the dough then spend it.....This jacket keeps you warm when it counts even in 25-30 degrees i was fine w/ me arcteryx phase half-zip and this jacket....
"Great layering or stand alone! Love the fit and style"
This hoddie is great! Love the trim fit so it'll fit we'll when climbing and not bulk up while layering! Love the warmth and style can wear it around town, into the woods for hiking and to dinner with out standing out. Keeps me really warm while layered over my RHO LT and under my arcteryx DRAC jacket!!
"A bit pricey, but delivers fantastic warmth"
I live in Providence, RI, and the Hyllus Hoody keeps me warm with just a long-sleeved tee underneath. It's perfect for the fall (40s and 50s) and will even keep you warm early into the winter (I'd say it maxes out at around 40). Overall, a great buy and an AMAZING mid-layer in the dead of winter.
I love this jacket. It is great on a chilly fall day and the insulation is extremely comfortable. The hood is a great feature when it gets really cold. Comes in great colors. Great quality as always from Arcteryx.
