This jacket is great for a warm mid-layer for harsh conditions or as an out layer for times when it is not wet or super windy. I love the the way the wrist cuffs comfortably seal out the cold. The hood is extremely warm and works perfectly in combination with a hooded shell.
A perfect mid-layer under a shell, or exterior layer for 40+ degrees. Even more comfortable if you have a bad ass beard. At 5'9, 170 lbs the medium is perfect. Good trim fit without being super tight. One slight issue is the hood. Its super warm and great, but a little "baggy". I wish there were a way to tighten it. When you wear a hat under it, its fine, but otherwise a little large. All in all a great jacket - would HIGHLY recommend even with the slightly higher price point.Stay Classy, NK
This jacket is simply better than any North Face or patagonia comparable fleece. It also packs into the sleeve, so you can stuff it into a backpack. Really water resistant, put this jacket under a water fountain, and the water literally slides off - swoosh! No wetness underneath afterword either! Also really wind proof and the pockets are warm, so when a big draft of cold air comes in I just put my hands in the pocket, tighten the drawstrings on the waist, and walk forward as I see people around me shudder and cowl their faces. Finally it can't be understated how light this jacket, its incredible for how much warmth it gives! This is basically a go to piece in my wardrobe, be it as a layering piece for winter weather or as a jacket for cooler spring weather.
I have had my Atom Lt for two seasons now. I just bought my gf one too. We both love how soft and cozy this hoody feels. The sides aid it keeping you just the right temp inside too. The fleece lined pockets are nice and warm. This hoody really has it all without being too bulky. My only knock on it is the hood. My gf's fits her just right since she has long hair to fill up the inside. The men's version though fits really big. It would be nice if Arcteryx would have put one adjuster on it at least. If you aren't wearing a hat or beanie then your head really swims in it and one gust of cold air and you've lost the warmth you were building up inside. The jacket fits on the slim side. You could fit a light fleece like the Delta underneath and you can easily wear a hard shell or even a lose fitting hard fleece like the Epsilon over it.
"This is my second Atom LT jacket (one with and one without hood) and I LOVE IT!"
The Atom LT is hands down the warmest jacket I've ever owned at this weight. I can easily throw it on over a t-shirt in 40 degree weather and be perfectly warm. When skiing, I wear it between a Capilene 4 base layer and a weatherproof shell - it's a perfect setup for anything down to about 10 degrees F. If it gets colder than that, I just add a light fleece between the base layer and the Atom. Do yourself a favor and buy one!
You can't go wrong with this jacket.Hiked the entire Appalachian Trail 2013 with it and it ended up being my favorite piece of gear.SUPER cozy, durable, always warm, even when wet, actually sheds wind/water pretty well for what it is.I felt bad for people in the Smokies when their down jackets got soaked and they had to stop hiking and get in their fart sacks b/c their jackets were useless.LOVE the side material and how it vents. From my experience, this really helps during any activity other than sitting around. But even when being lazy around a cold camp, you just keep your arms where they naturally fall, next to your sides, and it keeps your sides equally as warm as the rest of the jacket. GET THE HOODY VERSION! Just do it.The first one I bought was hoodless, and I kicked myself for that decision later.Anyway, I guess the Universe corrected itself when I ended up LOSING that $200 jacket and had to buy another b/c I loved it so much.Needless to say, this time I went with the Hoody :)
I wanted something to keep me warm under my three season motorcycle jacket which wasn't doing the job. This jacket performed phenomenally at 70+ mph for 250 miles in 35 degree farenheit temps and gusty winds. I ride an '07 R6 so the jacket took the majority of the wind. It weighs nothing (compared to motorcycle armor). Water beads off of it. It keeps you warm, but not too warm inside. It breaks crazy amounts of wind.My only wish is that there was some means of tightening the hood. I find that walking into the wind, the hood acts a a parachute if I don't hold it down. All in all, I am very gland that Jon at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township, MI convinced me to get this instead of The North Face I was interested in. Thanks Jon!
I think it is perfect for cool spring or fall, you can wear it outside. in winter, it is a perfect one for inside, if you have a Arcteryx mx or sv jacket . I have some Insulated jackets, I think this one is the best!
I purchased the Medium size (I am 5'9", 165 lbs) and the coat fit perfectly. I use this on an everyday basis in the fall/winter and can't say enough good things about the coat. The coat keeps me perfectly warm, without overheating and feels like the material breathes. I use this for skiing/snowboarding under the Arcteryx Stingray coat, and it is the perfect combination. I wear just a t-shirt underneath the Atom Hoodie and the combination works great. I've used this for skiing/snowboarding in Washington state, Colorado, Oregon, Vermont, and New York so needless to say, the coat holds up under all conditions. I would highly recommend this as a base layer for any snowsports and for everyday usage on its own.
I am 178 cm height and 70 kg and buy a M size jacket. It perfectly fit my body and keep me warm in the winter. Furthermore, it is light-weight and can be easily packed in my backpack when I am travelling.
Everything Arcteryx makes is of the best quality (that is why everything is crazy-expensive) and this jacket is no exception. What sets this Arcteryx jacket apart is the perfect fit. I am 5' 10" and 155 lbs and I wear a Medium Atom LT. The sleeves are nice and long for my long arms, the back of the jacket is long enough to keep my back warm and the hood fits perfectly so I can see out of it.
"The total shizzy!!! That's a good thing, The kids told me so:)"
The jacket is light weight but warm, I bought the LT. I am 5' 7" I weigh about 170. I thought a medium would be perfect but it was a little small. The Large was perfect, although the cuff is very tapered at the wrist, a lil tight but not bad. Typical bad ass Arcteryx quality, nice inside pocket.I actually think it is priced pretty good for what you get, there never cheap, you do get what you pay for as we all know.Peace, BT
