"Great jacket!" 01/03/13
This is a nicely designed jacket-- not bulky (substantial, but not too heavy material). Windstopper makes it a decent shell for cold days, and the excellent pit zips let you ventilate when needed.I am 5'11" and 198 lbs with a 36" waist. Was gonna get a Large, but decided to go XL so I could wear a sweater and lightweight down jacket if needed. Glad I did! Even with just a shirt on, it is not over-large at all (though the sleeves are 2-3 inches longer than my 36" arms need; the velcro straps at the end solve that issue), yet I have enough room to add layers if I need them. The Large would have been too tight. Some companies' XL sizes are huge, but not so with Acr'teryx.
"Arcteryx Men's Venta SV Jacket" 09/22/12
What's awsome:-the jacket is completely windproof-keeps out snow and all but the worst downpours.-hood is truely helmet compatible, and can be forgotten easily if you want due to design of drop hood.-breathable. Pit zips give you added control over your temp.-cuffs cinch down nicely without bunching up and getting uncomfortable.- included pockets are good sized and well placed.- material is soft and flexible and downright comfortable.- fit is really nice throughout body, unrestricted arm movement-zippers move real smooth, even pit zips.Lots of weather protection and a solid set of features with spot-on fit. Good luck finding a better softshell
"THE BEST!!" 08/26/12
What can I say about this jacket? It was voted as the best outdoor shell in its class.I am no professional but this jacket fits well, looks cool, does its job very well, etc.At the same time, this is one of the most expensive jacket out there but it will look like new for many years to come. I tried other jackets but ended up going back to the Venta.Overall, I highly recommend this jacket if the bill fits you!
"Jacket that makes you feel better!" 03/15/12
I simply love some of Arcteryx products. IMO, the fleece department is weak compare to some other brands but when it comes to gore-tex/softshell jackets, this is the BEST! I've had many softshell jackets but this one clearly stands on top in every aspect. It looks sharp, comfortable, well constrcuted, great fit, and very durable. I believe this was voted #1 softshell jacket by professional climbers in 2011. Though a lot of their jackets are made in China, the quality control is not relaxed as I really can't tell the difference between Canadian or Chinese made jackets. Wish this was our brand, go USA!!!
"Wind? What wind?" 01/11/12
This jacket locks the wind out completely! That simple feat makes any insulation layer seem to double in effectiveness. Layer away! Vents like a champ with the huge pit zips. And those come far enough down that you can use them as access to the pockets in whatever layer your wearing under it. By itself it's great for cool days - in a t-shirt your arms will appreciate the fleece lining. Put an Atom LT under it and you're good to go in into the 20's.
"Divorced w/ the 1st one but remarried with a 2nd Venta SV....." 12/24/11
People do not realize how good they have it until they lose something. Well, it in my case. I had one in 2009, sold it in 2010, and I just bought another one in 2011! BTW, the resale value on Venta SV is HUGE but try to hold on to yours. It is one of the BEST jackets you will own and reviews will out there will agree and approve. The jacket is slightly insulated but you would not notice the weight or the bulkiness. It is soft as any soft shell should be. It shields you from any moisture (maybe not heavy rain) and snow. You will look different from all the The North Face wearing folks and stylish. Need more convincing? Buy it as the force is very strong with thin one!!
"Great jacket, perfect warm replacement for a hardshell" 12/22/11
This is an amazing jacket. As is usual for arcteryx products, great construction and perfect fit. I'm 6'2" 200lbs and I bought a large. The body and sleeves are long enough to provide plenty of coverage, and the overall fit of the jacket is athletic, but loose enough to layer under. The pit zips are great and essential since the jacket doesn't breathe super well during intense activity. It's warm for a softshell, especially with the hood, which is huge. The only con is the sleeves are real baggy, a lot like a burly hardshell, and it can look a little funny when the cuffs are tightened. Other than that, I'm happy.
"Might get rid of my hardshell because of this one." 08/14/11
DWR water proof treatment works well in a downpour lasting for a few hours. Windstopper says it all. Under arm vents something the Gamma MX hoody I had didn't have. A thin fleece layer for Insulation works wonders when the temp dips. So why do I still have a hardshell? I Can't part with a good jacket. Overall if you want a jacket that works as well as a hardshell and breaths like a softshell and only want one jacket, this is the one.
"Go to Jacket" 06/05/11
I have had this jacket for over a year now. Hands down, the first jacket I grab when walking out the door. As a college student studying Forest Management, I am constantly running across campus and stomping through the woods on a daily basis. This jacket has held up to it all. Best part is, its also serves double duty on my backpacking adventures as well. Light enough and breathable enough to wear on winter hikes. I would recommend this jacket to anyone. If you are looking for an all purpose jacket that will keep the wind off you and the rain from soaking you to the bone, this is the jacket for you.
"If you want a soft shell go for this guy" 01/18/11
I get made fun of by all my friends for only buying Arcteryx jackets but the quality is amazing. The dwr material makes this jacket practicaly waterproof and the pit zips are sweet when you are working up a sweet. Another cool feature is the drop hood and the fact you don't have to keep it up the whole time. I got this guy in copper which makes this jacket pop.
"The Perfect Length Ski Jacket For Tall/Athletic Peeps" 12/17/10
The Venta SV is what I've been dying for from AR for years now. A LONGER jacket that covers more than your belly button if you're a little more slender than average. For a windstopper jacket, it's dang near waterproof (short of a few hours in a heavy downpour). If you like something a bit higher fitting, look at the Venta AR. Basically the same jacket, though the AR lacks 2 things that annoy me (both of which are on the SV!): pit zips and an internal pocket.Great jacket for any condition above 0 F I'd say - given proper layering of course. 6'1" / 170lb / Athletic Build and the Medium fits perfect over a Fleece and Base Layer.
