"Looks great and performs even better!" 02/23/13
When it's cold, rainy, windy, or snowy, this is my go-to jacket. It keeps everything out and leaves the heat in. Great for the city where umbrellas constantly get destroyed when the wind starts to pick up.
"Fantastic jacket for skiing in a wide range of conditions" 01/31/13
I've had the opportunity to ski in several different conditions with the Stingray. On warm days (25-35 degrees) I was able to get away with just a base layer and a light sweater under the Stingray. On colder days (below 25) I paired it with a base layer, lightweight fleece and an Atom LT for insulation. The pit zips work great for dumping extra heat and the hood is awesome at keeping your head and neck warm on stormy days or when riding the lift. As a word of caution, the "light insulation" in this jacket is EXTREMELY light and I wouldn't count on it alone to keep me warm. I definitely recommend this jacket. It's SERIOUSLY stormproof.
"Great Jacket that can be used for everything" 01/03/13
I bought this jacket to use primarily for skiing, but am now using it for everything. It is thin and breathable enough to wear in summer during rainstorms, but for some reason also keeps you warm enough to ski all day on the mountain. The fit is fantastic, and the material is smooth unlike typical gore-tex pro shell jackets. This is by far the best jacket I have ever owned.
"Great all-around use jacket" 12/17/12
I wear this jacket all the time, whether its on the slopes, winter hikes/climbs, or just around town and esp on rainy days. Its comfortable, stylish, and functional. Very high quality, well made, wind, snow and water dont stand a chance. This thing is bombproof. Get compliments on it all the time. Only two possible concerns, the "lightly insulated" is a joke, its still just a shell. And it fits snug if you have wide chest/shoulders. Other than that, this is by far, the best purchase and most consistently used item outta anything I've bought in the past 2 years. Arcteryx makes the best jackets IMO, pricey but worth the investment!
"Great on mountain jacket" 12/13/12
I have had this jacket for several years- and it is one of my favorites. I use it primarily for resort skiing, and i appreciate the soft shell material, the Gore-tex, and the micro fleece backer that keeps you just a bit warmer than a straight shell. This is cut a bit roomier than a typical Arcteryx jacket- i think if I reordered, I would definitely order a large vs an xl. I am a product tester for Gore-tex, but I purchased this for my personal use.
"My Daily Hardshell Jacket" 10/17/12
This is the jacket that I wear the most, though I have several other options. It fits well, has appropriate pockets for everyday use, and is comfortable enough over lots of different under layers. I wear it through most of the PNW winter, with everything from freezing fog to pouring rain, and have been very happy with it. That said, I have a different shell that I use for mountaineering. This one has too much micro fleece in the body and neck which wicks up water during all day activities. Full Disclosure, I've been participating in the Gore MountainTechs program since 2007 and have received several similar jackets for testing.
"Great ski jacket" 09/11/12
I am fortunate to be in a program that lets me test goretex jackets. I have 4 Arcteryx currently in my closet. This is the one i always use on the lifts. The softshell adds just enough warmth to where i don't have to bulk up on the insulation. The hood fits easily over a helmet the pockets are very generously sized, the Goretex keeps the wind\water out, and the softshell has some flext to it so it moves really well on the body. I used it for a full season of backcountry skiing too, it worked great during the winter months but as spring approached it got a little warm for me. Not too bad, but warmer than a shell (my Beta AR). I highly recommend this jacaket.Scottrad out.
"AWESOME!" 08/02/12
I owned the first generation and demo'd the second generation of this jacket and I have to say that the latest generation is a complete re-design of the stingray. I have to say I really miss the old design, but the new shaping and colors are great. I quickly fell in love with this new style of Stingray. I was skeptical about the pocket design at first, but they are very roomy and really easy to access (they are nice and long too). They are not blocked when you wear a pack, and the shoulder pocket is now large enough to carry my i-phone comfortably. There is only 1 inner pocket, I wish arcteryx had placed another one (perhaps a mesh one) on the inside as well.
"Awesome Ski Jacket!!!" 07/09/12
This jacket is truly rocks. I am a Gore MountainTech and I have tested a lot of products for W.L. Gore. Arc'teryx left out no detail with this jacket. I am 6'-5" tall and weigh 195 pounds. The XL fits me just right. The sleeves have plenty of length for my long arms, it is just roomy enough to fit an insulating mid-layer. The hood fits great as well; just enough room to fit over my ski helmet. Pit zips are easy to use the pockets are large and well-positioned. The soft shell fabric is very rugged but is not at all constricting. It can handle a very wide range of temperatures with the proper layering and venting. I really can find nothing bad to say about this jacket. Great job Arc'teryx!
"This is a fantastic piece of gear for an enormous range of hard core activities." 06/25/12
What I LIKE: it's well ventilated, and the lining is EVERYWHERE, not just the back or sides. The snow skirt is more grippy than most. I like the feel of softshell more than proshell, and it’s remarkably long-lasting. The main zipper is taped but easier and bigger than most, which is hard to accomplish. What I LOVE: I look slim in this wandering around with friends, and I still can put on two layers, gloves, a helmet & this jacket. I also LOVE the fully-lined inner pockets, and Arcteryx's usual attention to color shade details and tape shines and things like where they put the recco patch and their logos. It all looks pro. Note: I’m a Mountaintech, so I test products for GORETEX regularly.
"Sexy Jacket!!" 01/18/12
Ive had this jacket for a few weeks not and I absolutely love it. The softshell gore is a bit more supple that the Gore tex proshell which is a bonus. Not as swishy as full on gore. I haven't skied in it yet but Im sure it will stand up extremely well. Hoping this jacket will last me years!!
"Must to have for skier or boarder...." 12/25/11
I wore this jacket during last ski season. I wore lightweight fleece under the jacket. I couldn't feel any cold. Also, I am a beginner for skiing. I felt often down the ground; however, it keep me in fresh condition. If you wear helmet for skiing, this jacket also fit with your helmet. I usually wear this jacket during commute cause I am riding a bike for it. I could feel any wind coming inside of it. I would like to strongly recommend you if you are considering best jacket for either winter sports or daily wearing.
